Chibi-Usa smiled a little as she leaned over the balcony, singing quietly. Around her birds were whistling along, squirrels chirping, deer grazing down below her window. Living with Queen Nehelania since her mother passed had been more than an adjustment. She was practically a prisoner to the palace. She knew her new "mother" was some kind of crazy, she had walked passed the woman room once and she was talking to her mirror, asking it who the fairest in the land was.
Once darkness fell she found herself walking through the castle, heading to her own room. She seen a light displayed in a thin line on the opposite wall and peeked curiously through the crack in the door. "Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all." Chibi-Usa wanted to laugh, she couldn't believe the woman was actually talking to a mirror. When she heard a voice though, deep and rumbling start to respond her body was struck with fear.
"You are fair, my queen it's true. However, Chibi-Usa is by far more fair than you." Chibi-Usa made a small sound and clapped both hands over her mouth with wide eyes before running off toward her room. She took a deep breath as she shut the door. The mirror had spoken...
"I must just be tired, I mean... no way." She mumbled before changing into her sleeping clothes and going to lay down, trying not to let the mirror's words make her nervous.
Meanwhile~ Nehelania stood in front of the mirror, her features twisted in rage. "Prettier? That moon princess rat?" Glass shattered as she overturned a table. "I'll show her prettier... Zirconia! Bring me the Huntsman!" The old woman nodded and left the room, leaving Nehelania to burn with rage as she faced her mirror. "That damn girl." Her eyes burned with hatred as she waited, rather impatiently if the steady stream of broken glasses was any indication, for Zirconia to return with the Huntsman.
The old woman reappeared shortly after to a sea of broken glass with a young man trailing behind. She had always been captivated by the ma's golden eyes. "Helios... I have an errand for you." The woman's demeanor did not betray the burning anger deep inside.
"Anything for my queen." She wanted to smirk at his almost sarcastic words. She produced a small box with a moon shaped clasp and two little sparkling hearts.
"You are to take that wretched Chibi-Usa out to the forest and dispose of her. You will bring me her heart in this box, to show proof that the job is done." His golden eyes widened.
"Milady! She's only a child."
"Enough of your insolence, you will do as I say or you will die along with her." He frowned before taking the box and storming off down the hallway. "Take her out first thing in the morning Helios, and don't you dare fail." He heard her words in his head after leaving the room and shivered in disgust. He caught a maid on the way down the hall and told her to send a message to Chibi-Usa to be ready for an outing in the morning.
~In the morning Chibi-Usa found herself awake long before the maid came to get her up. She found herself dressed and ready and waiting anxiously by the open window in her bedroom that overlooked the forest. She loved the view, though she wasn't allowed in the forest often. Just whenever Helios took her to collect berries. Her thoughts turned to the huntsman, there was always so comforting about him. He made her feel the way her father used to, so on the rare occasion she got to spend time with him it was always precious. She wrapped a pink cloak around her shoulders and pulled the hood up before hearing a knock on the door.
"Are you ready to go, Small Lady?" The use of her parents nickname for her made her feel a pang of sadness before she pulled the door open, her eyes shining happily.
"I'm ready." She said before following him to the forest.
