A/N: "From a Distance" by Bette Midler, evolved. Don't own the song, don't own the characters. Sorry if your favorite doesn't show up, just imagine them standing around somewhere.
Scene: A street corner in Bayville.
From a distance the world looks blue and green
(Kurt and Toad are staring at each other.)
And the snow-capped mountains white
(Toad gets hit with a snowball. Bobby is seen laughing.)
From a distance the ocean meets the stream
(The rest of the X-Men and Brotherhood are all standing around staring at each other.)
And the eagle takes to flight
(Mystique transforms into an eagle and flies away.)
From a distance, there is harmony,
(Bayville citizens walk by, singing.)
And it echoes through the land
It's the voice of hope, it's the voice of peace,
(Everybody is singing and dancing.)
It's the voice of every man
Kurt: And elf!
Toad: And toad!
Scene: The Institute's kitchen.
From a distance we all have enough
(Kurt walks by with a huge armload of food.)
And no one is in need
(Rogue looks at him in disgust.)
Scene: Random pictures.
And there are no guns,
Lance: Aww...
no bombs,
(An international no sign appears over a picture of Tabitha.)
and no disease,
(Toad shows up in a sterile suit.)
Scene: Back to the kitchen.
No hungry mouths to feed
(Evan looks in the refrigerator, which is completely empty.)
Scene: The school field.
From a distance we are instruments
(The Bayville high band comes onto the field.)
Marching in a common band
(Principal Kelly gets trampled.)
Playing songs of hope, playing songs of peace
(Everyone in the stands is singing.)
They're the songs of every man
Kurt: And elf!
Toad: And toad!
Scene: The roof of a nearby building.
God is watching us, God is watching us
God is watching us from a distance
(Magneto glares down at everyone.)
Scene: Some public place.
From a distance you look like my friend,
Even though we are at war
(The Friends of Humanity are screaming and threatening our mutant friends.)
From a distance I just cannot comprehend
what all this fighting is for
(Suddenly, the FoHs drop their weapons, and everybody hugs.)
From a distance there is harmony,
And it echoes through the land
And it's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves,
(Everyone holds hands and sings.)
it's the heart of every man
Kurt: Elf!
Toad: Toad!
It's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves
This is the song of every man
(More hand-holding and singing.)
Scene: The roof.
And God is watching us, God is watching us,
God is watching us from a distance
(Mystique lands and turns back into her usual self.)
Oh, God is watching us, God is watching
God is watching us from a distance
(Xavier shows up. Magneto, Mystique, and Xavier share a big hug.)
