Scar is a Wanderer. Wanderer is a being that doesn't live in either the Soul Society or Heuco Mundo. They live in the World of the Living until someone in a world finds bring her/him in. But sometimes it takes awhile for them to find. Scar was stillborn like so many others of her kind. When Byakuya finds Scar he finds her too hard to restrain. Soon, he finds himself in love.
