Home is Where the Heart Is

Disclaimer: I don't own LOST.

A/N: This story came to me while I have been working on my last chapter of Impressions. I was going to add this in there but then it didn't work out so I decided to make this a one shot. Basically, it's been a few months since Jack, Kate, and Sawyer had been kidnapped. All of them were rescued and now safely home.

Kate watched Jack go to the shore and throw his backpack on the ground as she stood a little ways up the beach. He walked into the water just a little bit in order for the waves to come crashing against his feet. Being kidnapped had changed Jack. He wasn't as hard on himself anymore and he didn't take it on himself to solve everyone's problems. Of course, being kidnapped had changed everything. They'd only been kidnapped for a week and then been rescued by Sayid and a couple of other men but it had been enough time for them to get to know the Others and for the Others to do whatever they wanted. And they had done whatever they had wanted.

Kate shuddered at the thought of what the Others had done, and what they could still do. But that wasn't important right now. What was important right now, was what was happening before her. Kate knew she still needed to talk to Jack. She couldn't believe they still hadn't fully talked. Every time they would get around to it someone would interrupt them. It soon became a mutual understanding between them that they would never be able to fully talk and be together like they both knew they should be.

So now Kate walked down beside Jack on the beach.

"This is a first, you, just standing here." Kate smiled at him as she implanted her feet in the sand.

Jack grinned. "Yeah. Not a lot of injuries today."

"That must be a nice change."

"Yeah.' Jack shrugged.

"So you're sinking huh?" Kate smiled at him knowingly.

"Yep. Someone once told me about it and I've never had a chance to try it. So I thought I would try it today."

"Oh yeah? And who is this friend?"

"She's just this gorgeous girl who keeps me in check."

Kate grinned and looked out to the ocean. "Keeps you in check huh?"

Jack just nodded and the two of them just enjoyed the moment of standing so close together in the silence except for the waves of the ocean.

"It's so funny how we call this place home now you know?" Jack commented.

"I know this sounds weird, but I really have felt the most happy here."

"Well home is where the heart is." Jack said.

"Well then the island isn't my home because that's not where my heart is." Kate said.

Jack looked over at Kate and she turned her head to look at him." Then where is your heart Kate?" He asked, gazing intently at her.

"With you." She replied softly, staring at his eyes, which seemed to suddenly brighten.

Jack's heart soared and suddenly nothing else mattered. He couldn't hear the waves, he couldn't hear any of the people scattered about the beach, he couldn't think about anything other than her, and suddenly she was kissing him again. But this time, it was full of passion and not need. It was full of love and not distress. They grabbed onto one another, her arms around his neck and his arms around her waist. This time, no one would interrupt them, not even the cheers that were being exulted from the other survivors.

A/N: So I would really really really love some feedback on this! I hope you liked it!
