A/N: This idea came to me after listening to Linkin Park's 'Numb'. Just a warning, this one-shot will be angst-heavy from Syrus' POV so you Syrus fans out there may need a few Kleenex after reading this! You've been warned! Also near the end of it, there is some light brotherly SyXHassleberry fluff.
Summary: Syrus' thoughts after Jesse's arrival in Season 3 as he wonders why he's been left out of the picture. Syrus-heavy angst! Implied Spiritshipping! One-sided Anikishipping! One-shot inspired by Linkin Park's Numb!
Syrus Truesdale sighed as he watched his best friend Jaden Yuki walk away, arms linked together with Jaden's seemingly new best friend, Jesse Anderson.
Ever since the North Academy exchange student had showed up, he and Jaden had been seemingly inseparable.
As a result, Syrus had basically been shut out of the picture and as a result, his friendship with Jaden had begun to suffer tremendously.
"Jaden, why have we grown apart? I was here before Jesse and now it's like I don't exist! But why? Don't you care anymore?" The little Obelisk Blue questioned with tears in his eyes.
I've become so numb
I can't feel you there
All I want to do is be more like me and be less like you…
"Jay, I was here before Jesse…so why is he the one your close to? It should be me you want to spend your life with, not him!" Sy screamed to the sky, knowing Jaden and Jesse were nowhere near by.
Although the 2 boys didn't technically admit they loved one another, Syrus could see they probably did, due to the immense time they'd spent together.
Can't you see that you're smothering me?
Holding too tightly, afraid to lose control
Cause everything that you thought I would be
Has fallen apart right in front of you…
I've become so numb
I can't feel you there
All I want to do is be more like me and be less like you…
"I mean what does he have that I don't, Jaden?" Sy sobbed.
Fortunately for the little bluenette, Tyranno Hassleberry came nearby and saw the little one crying his eyes out.
Hassleberry looked sympathetic as he jogged over.
"Hey, Private. What's got you so down, son?" He asked soothingly.
Sy looked up at the wannabe sergeant, his eyes tearful. "You wouldn't understand, Hassleberry!" He yelled.
Hassleberry winced slightly, keeping himself from getting angry at the melancholic bluenette.
"Try me, Truesdale." He replied calmly.
Sy sniffled, wiping his eyes. 'It's Jaden! Ever since Jesse came, it's like I'm invisible to him! I knew him first!" Sy cried.
Hassleberry gently wrapped his arms around the crying child. "Private, this may be a violation of privacy, but do you well…" He trailed off.
"Do I what, Hassleberry?" Sy asked.
"Do you have well…romantic feelings for the Sarge?" The dino duelist inquired.
"You mean like, do I love him?" Sy asked in reply.
"Yeah, but as a brother or a boyfriend?" Hassleberry asked.
Sy blushed the shade of Jaden's red jacket. "As a boyfriend. I have since I first saw him. But how did you know, Hassleberry?" Sy asked in surprise.
Hassleberry chuckled. "Call it a soldier's intuition, but if that's the case, Truesdale, why didn't ya tell the Sarge before Jesse came?" He asked.
The tears came again at the mention of the emerald-eyed bluenette. "I was too afraid…and now it's too late." Sy sobbed.
"It's never too late, Sy." Hassleberry assured, hugging him tightly.
"For me and Jay, yes it is…" Sy whimpered as he cried in Hassleberry's arms.
Hassleberry hugged tighter, but he knew in reality he couldn't relieve Sy's pain.
Only Jaden could.
Cause everything that you thought I would be
Has fallen apart right in front of you…
I've become so numb
I can't feel you there
All I want to do is be more like me and be less like you…
The End!
