The Road So Far

Sam stumbled from the Impala, his feet tripping over themselves. They'd been on the road too long; his legs rendered numb from their pretzel-like folding into the front passenger seat. Sleeping upright never gets any easier, he decided. Despite the years of practice.
"Sheesh, Sammy. Watch where you're going," grumbled Dean, the words belied by their soft, underlying tone.
Sam caught his brother's concerned gaze as Dean's steady arm wrapped around his shoulders. Yawning profusely, he let Dean steer him in the direction of the nearest caffeinated beverage, bed, or perhaps even both.
He knew he was in safe hands.
