The other day, Armin and I were playing Epic Mickey on co-op. He was Mickey and I was Oswald because I suck at jumping in video games, and everything about Super Mario Bros is jumping. Any way, we were in trying to get as many achievements as we could during our main quest of getting the good ending, when I mused out loud;
"I sort of feel like April Ryan right now."
Armin put the game in map mode and looked at me.
"April Ryan from The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, or Chapters?" he asked. For a moment, the question caught me off guard.
"The Longest Journey." I told him.
"So... you feel like a depressed, uninspired art college student that suddenly realized that the fate of two worlds and the entire universe rests on your shoulders?" he asked in one breath. I stared at him for a moment, feeling mostly surprised but also a little amused. If anyone was to describe April Ryan is one sentence for the majority of The Longest Journey, that would have been a rather good description. At least, in my opinion.
"I said that I sort of felt like April." I said to him, smiling a little to show it was all in good humor. He looked at me long and hard. The menu music for Epic Mickey started to hit more slower notes as well now, making the more moment more dramatic than what was needed.
"Good." Armin finally said, returning the game to play. "Because if you really did feel like April, I'd be a bit concerned. She gets stabbed because of her loss of faith and may or may not be dead now."
For a moment, I just looked at him but shrugged it off. It's nice to know nerds care.
