School starts for me again tomorrow and I just don't want to go… To express my sadness, I will throw two depressed skeletons at you in a short something. Enjoy.

Who doesn't know the short skeleton? His love for puns, his eternal smile and his lazy personality. Maybe a small portion iss an actual part of his true self, but his characteristic traits mostly serve the purpose to hide his pain, his despair, his suffering. He realises that every single action, every little effort is meaningless in the face of the resets and his laziness reaches a level the world didn't see before. He knows that he is alone with the knowledge, so he decides to lie to himself in favour of pleasing his brother Papyrus. However, the stress caused by the resets made him forget one important fact about the younger skeleton: Papyrus is very observant. Through his carelessness, Sans unknowingly hurts his brother more than he realises.

I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL STOP YOU!
Papyrus knew that his brother changed. Sans still speaks and interacts with him normally, but it is just a farce. The older skeleton is by his side, smiling, laughing and punning, but that is wrong. Papyrus can't find his real brother in that faked grin. He doesn't understand. A few weeks ago, Sans still put effort in helping him with his „Battle Body", but now he changed drastically. It is like Papyrus missed a big part of Sans' life, like Sans moved on and left him behind. The change Sans experienced during one single night equals one that would normally take years.
He doesn't pay attention to anything anymore, he neglects everything and his smile doesn't reach his eyes. That isn't Sans, it is just a mask that hides his true emotions. Papyrus doesn't like this Sans, he is so fake, so negative, so hopeless.
Papyrus slowly grows frustrated with his inability to help. Why won't Sans talk to him? He knows that his big brother only wants the best for him, so maybe it is something he doesn't need to know? Or… Could it be that Sans doesn't trust him? Is he unreliable? That… That can't be the reason, right? He… He will show his brother that he is able to help! He will join the Royal Guard, make lots of friends and become independent! Undyne said that he will be accepted when he manages to catch a human. That is fine with him, after all she only said to catch one, not to kill. When Papyrus manages to prove his worth, maybe then will Sans open up to him. Maybe then will Papyrus finally get his big brother back. Until that time comes, Papyrus will drown these dark thoughts with optimism. After all, Sans will be sad when he realises that his baby bro is sad himself.
