A Hard Life
The story begins,
"Its dark, and cold, help..."
Lilac stands frozen in the abandoned yard. Her owner had gone one day and never returned.
The ground was ruff and hard to walk in. She was in too much pain to move. Her hooves hurt her and she felt like she was going to die. Her mane was tangled and knotted and ruffled up, no longer a nice almost white color, but a near black. It had been days, maybe five or six.
"Maybe this is a good thing that she is gone."
Her owner was a cruel woman who hated animals and got Lilac out of a will from Lilac's original owner.
Lilac's original owner had been sweet and kind but had gotten too old to care for her anymore. Lilac had been barely fed and was as skinny as a twig. She had barely any space to move.
Lilac thought "I have to get out of here." the mere thought of her cruel owner coming back gave her the shivers, even though she knew that she was probably never going to come back. The thought went through her mind. She was scared yet ready to take action. This place was all she had ever known since she was a young horse. She did not know where she would go or how she would get food and water.
It was hard, even for her to lie down to get a good nights rest.
The sun shone bright in Lilac's face making her wake up immediatly. The night had been rough with barely any cusion. She felt happy that morning had come and was excited for the new day, then she felt a deep sinking feeling in her stomach, she remembered she was still trapped and alone.
What was she going to do?
She started towards the rusty old gate at the back of her sleeping place. She decided for the first part of the day she would try to open this fence. It was just a latch but she was too weak too open it herself.
"I will rest and think for a while longer to get back my strength."
Lilac slept throught the first half of the day then when she awoke, lets just say she felt better than she did before. The gate was easily opened and Lilac stepped out on, nice footing. She was going to start her journey today. The best way to travel is north she thought, so she started walking along the highway towards her destination, wherever that is. She passed a town and through a small village. It had grown dark so she went to rest in a group of bushes where she would not be seen for the rest of the night. In the morning she awoke to busy cars and honking buses. It was not quite daylight, it was dawn.
She had a lot of trouble sleeping and was very tired but had to keep moving.
