The Mode Mystery- Chapter One

Betty Suarez, Mode editor and successful businesswoman, walks into the Mode closet one morning to look for Marc, but finds Amanda, yet again, hiding in the new season Gucci dresses with armfuls of clothes slung over her shoulder, unaware of Betty's presence, she struts out of the closet, as Betty places her purse down on the counter, she speaks up.

"Amanda, have you seen Marc lately? And put that Fendi purse back where it belongs. You can't keep raiding the closet like this; we'll have nothing left for the models!"

"Sorry Betty, got to dash, I've got a hot date in an hour." As she dashes out of the closet and into the lift.

"Hey, come back here Amanda!" As Betty follows Amanda into the lift.

"Betty!" Amanda sounded startled. "If you must know, I'm not speaking to Marc, now can you leave me alone?"

"Can I ask why you and Marc aren't talking?"

Amanda doesn't answer as she steps out of the elevator.

Betty knows something's wrong when Claire Meade stumbles into Betty's large, tidy office in a rage.

"Are you alright Mrs. Meade? You seem a little off today that's all."

"Yes, just a tad Betty, my magazine, Pretty Woman, hasn't even been publishing for a year and Daniel's already got plans to shut it down! Hot Flash was a disaster and now this, he says it's to make room for something fresh, but what could be so important that he has to shut me down? I just don't know who he is anymore Betty."

"Oh I'm sorry Claire, do you want me to have a word with Daniel?"

"No it's fine, it would never do as well as Mode and I don't care as long as my name's on the building."

"Are you sure?"

"Betty, I've survived the death of my husband, and the supposed death of Alexis, being put in jail, being pushed out of my own family more than once, I think I'll live."

Claire smiles weakly and walks out of the office. Betty thinks of all that Claire Meade's been through over the past few years, but doesn't dwell on the matter, she has more important things to do. Editor Betty Suarez leaves her office to go in search of Marc, who has some explaining to do.

A familiar voice from behind her makes her jump.

"Hello Betty, what a surprise to see you here!"
