"I can't believe you did that Oliver." Felicity glared at her boss while trying to figure out why he did what he did.
"Barry lied to us. To you." Oliver's eyes begged for understanding. He was sure he did the right thing by telling Felicity the truth but he also knew that his motivation in doing the background check on the young man is another story.
"Yes, he might have lied but all he has done so far is help us. I'm not saying this justifies his actions but couldn't you have blown his cover in another way?"
Turning her back on him, she tried to continue her research about the evil superman roaming the city. She was typing on the keyboard when she felt a hand on her right shoulder. This made her pause.
"Felicity Iā"
"What?"
"Look at me. Please."
Felicity swiveled her chair to look at Oliver and what she saw made her heart start beating faster. Oliver was on his knees and this placed his eyes at the same level as hers. She could almost see the turmoil in his soul. Then she felt his other hand creeping to cradle her left cheek.
"I'm sorry Felicity. How can I fix this?"
Her heart is splitting in two. Barry is a great guy and they understand each other on the scientific level, and sometimes, even on the personal level. It was a nice change after all this time of hiding her feelings for her boss which he can never EVER know. But who is she kidding? Even if he does learn about it, he has a roster of women to choose from which are all on the opposite side of the spectrum of hotness away from her. And however he acts towards her ā like how he is doing right now ā she knows that there's a one in a million chance, or make that a billion, that Oliver will think of her the same way.
"I don't know Oliver. You can apologize but I think he's going home now since he cannot do anything here anymore."
Oliver stood up and pulled Felicity to her feet. "I'm really sorry. I'll do my best to fix this."
He wrapped his right arm around the woman's shoulders which pushed her to his chest and they remained that way for a while.
Felicity almost forgot what they were arguing about as she listened to the steady heartbeat of the city's secret hero. And the fact that Oliver is hugging her. What she doesn't see is the way he looks up and purses his lips while blinking back the traitorous tears coming out of his tear ducts. The only proof of his heart breaking.
