Author's Note: This was a random idea that popped into my head. I never intended to involve Hook, but it just sort of happened. I guess you can't really resist a pirate! ;)
Emma awoke with a start. She nearly sighed with frustration as she realized where she was. Camping somewhere in the jungles of Neverland.
"What is it?" Her father, Prince Charming, woke immediately.
"I had a dream...about Henry." Emma couldn't catch her breath.
"Oh, Emma. What was it?" Mary Margaret was awake now, too. She walked over to where her daughter sat.
"I saw him here, in the jungle. He was calling for me. 'Mom!'" As Emma spoke, she could still see her son's frightened face.
"How do you know he wasn't calling for me?" Regina asked, slightly annoyed.
Emma shot the former queen a glare. "I kept trying to get to him, but every time I moved closer, he was farther away."
Mary Margaret pulled her daughter into a hug. "It's going to be all right. We're going to find Henry soon."
Emma wanted to find comfort in her mother's embrace, and to believe her words. But it just seemed so hopeless. "Pan doesn't want us to find him. He knows this island better than we do. It just doesn't look good."
"Emma, we can't give up," David said. "That's just what Pan wants. We're going to find him. We're the good guys, and good always wins."
"Maybe it does in your world, but definitely not in mine," Emma replied. Without another word, she got up and walked away from their camp.
"You can't go off on your own." Hook's voice made Emma turn around.
"I'm not. I just wanted to be alone for a while." Emma turned back and continued walking.
"Your parents are right," Hook said, following her. "Pan does know this island, but so do I. I know it's scary, but you've got to trust me."
Once again, Emma remembered the stories she'd heard about Peter Pan growing up. Never once had Hook been the good guy.
"I know I'm not your ideal choice for an ally, but I'm all you've got," Hook said. "I've dealt with Pan before. I wouldn't have brought you all here if I didn't think I could save your boy."
As much as Emma hated to admit it, the pirate was right. He was their best hope, because no one else here had a clue what dangers lurked in this jungle. "I almost lost Henry once, not too long ago. I do not want to lose him again. He's my family."
"Pan may be our enemy, but he's right about one thing. You've got to believe."
Emma looked at him. She was desperate to save her son, but she had no idea how to actually go about it. Which meant, like it or not, she needed Hook. "All right," she said, pushing past him as she walked back to camp.
Hook watched her leave. Despite what he'd said, he knew that going up against Peter Pan would not be an easy thing. The boy would stop at nothing to get what he wanted, and at the moment, that was Henry. He wasn't about to just give the child up without a fight. But there was at least one thing working in Hook's favor. Pirates don't give up, either.
