Akuroku Oneshot 4/5/12

Axel was fading. He could feel himself dissipating slowly, disappearing from this world. The different parts of himself were tugging in opposite directions and it was hard to resist their magnetic pull. He only had himself to blame, really, putting his whole being into an attack like that. And yet he couldn't manage to muster up any regret. Then again, he was a nobody, and it's not like nobodies could feel anything in the first place. But he had felt something, once upon a time. Something soft and sweet and pure. But that was gone, just like he soon would be.

Pulling himself out of his thoughts, Axel looked back up into those big, impossibly blue eyes, "Apologize to Kairi for me, will ya'?" Those big blue orbs hardened, "You can do it yourself when we see her." Axel couldn't suppress a chuckle; was he really so naïve as to think that he'd live that long? "I'll pass; my heart just wouldn't be in it, ya' know?" Chuckling again at his ill-timed joke, Axel's emerald green eyes focused again on those two bright blue lights, so similar to the ones he wanted to see, "Ya' know, Roxas… was the only one I actually liked… He made me feel like I had a heart." Axel could feel his gaze soften, picturing his cute little blond. He could remember the first time he'd told him that. They had just made love and were cuddling, Roxas's head nestled into Axel's chest. The blond was completely relaxed, almost asleep, and Axel was just watching and running his fingers through his soft blond hair. Axel had been mulling over this very thought all night, a sort of softness he had never experienced before. And laying here, all soft and quiet and peaceful, it was hard to see why he shouldn't say it, not that the redhead had ever been one for caution. And so he gave in, cupping Roxas' cheek tenderly, watching his bright blue eyes go wide from shock to ecstatic and brimming with desire, the blush pooling around his pale cheeks. He was so adorable, and when Roxas leaned forward, demanding a kiss, Axel had been happy to oblige. But he wasn't with Roxas anymore. Axel blinked, regret finally rearing its ugly head. Regret that he hadn't been able to see Roxas again, one last time.

Banishing these thoughts from his mind, Axel pulled together the last bits of his strength and opened a portal for the boy he was steadily leaving behind, "But I digress... Now go." This boy needed to hurry up, to leave before it was too late. "No, I won't leave you!" his voice hitched. Axel's view seemed to narrow; there was only those two ocean-blue eyes, that cherubic face.

He was no longer talking to Sora. The brunet had been replaced with the blond he so loved. Axel's gaze softened at the sight of his young lover as his would-be-heart soared, "Hey," he tapped Roxas's chin lightly, "cheer up." "But…." "No buts," Axel interrupted, "I may not have another life, but you do." Roxas's eyes began to shine with unshed tears as he whispered, "But I'll miss you…" Axel's face softened before he gave the sad, young boy a gentle smile, "Don't worry, I'll still be with you." The end was near. Axel's will was fading, along with his being. There wasn't much time. "After all, you're my heart. Got it memorized?" Roxas gasped with shock as the tears finally escaped. But despite it all, he managed one last smile, "Then I'll be sure to take good care of it." The first of Roxas's tears dripped down the tip of his nose, falling to land on Axel with a 'Plop!' It landed right where his heart would be. With one final, peaceful smile, Axel faded away, leaving a mourning boy with empty arms and full, blue eyes.
