Right To Choose
They thought they had the perfect daughter. She was well-behaved, a good student...she always did everything they told her to do. Therefore, when Hermione Granger told her parents that she was in love, they weren't prepared for what came next.
"Her name is Ginny Weasley."

Mr. and Mrs. Granger looked at their daughter, her words not quite registering. Mrs. Granger seemed to snap out of her reverie first. Shaking her head, she muttered a startled, "What?"
Hermione took a deep breath and, determined to get this over with, answered her mother's unspoken question.
"Mom, Dad, I'm in love with Ginny Weasley. A girl. I'm a lesbian."
Her parents continued to look at her in shock. The silence seemed to stretch on forever. Finally her father spoke. But when he did, he didn't say what she had hoped he would.
"Get out."

Ginny
Weasley drifted along the side of the road. She felt numb. She had
put off telling her parents for months, afraid of their reaction. Now
that she had finally told them she felt miserable. She had known that
her parents wouldn't understand. Her brothers, with whom she had
been so close to all these years, had turned their backs to her as
well. Wiping her eyes and pulling her jacket closer to her body,
Ginny continued walking towards the apartment she shared with her
lover. She hoped things that gone better with Hermione's parents.

One
look at her love told Hermione that thing's hadn't gone any
better with the Weasleys than they had with her parents. Without a
word the two girls embraced each other, tears rolling down both of
their cheeks. Hermione collapsed onto the nearest chair, pulling
Ginny down with her. They sat like that for hours, each being
comforted by the person next to them. xxx
The
next day Ginny and Hermione woke up with a different attitude. What
did it matter if their friends and family didn't accept them? We
don't need anybody, thought Ginny savagely; we have each
other. That will be enough. It has to be. The same thoughts were
swimming around Hermione's mind. xxx
So my parents don't support me, Hermione thought with a sigh. So what? She looked over at Ginny, whose eyes were red and puffy. But there seemed to be a look of determination etched over her face as well.

That afternoon as Ginny and Hermione were walking back from the grocery store, Hermione reached out and clasped the younger girl's hand. Ginny looked up quizzically. Hermione just smiled and pulled her closer. Ginny read the look in her love's eyes and smiled. No words were needed. They were both thinking the same thing: we don't need anybody else as long as we've got each other.
