Teaser: a different way of dying for Buffy Summers
Timeline: post-Chosen (7.22) and during The Day After Tomorrow
/See the End/
Buffy had fought countless battles, had averted several apocalypses, and had just all-round kicked ass.
So when Sunnydale, California went up in flames—so to speak; it actually collapsed within itself—Buffy decided it was time for a change of scenery.
She kissed Dawnie goodbye, packed her bags, waved Xander off to Cleveland, and caught the first flight down to New York City. Because, well, New York City, right? The shopping, the vista, the history. It was a perfect place for some downtime before she was sent globetrotting to track down fellow Slayers.
Her seat on the plane was right behind three kids that reminded her of the Old Scooby Gang—Xander, herself, and Willow. The one in the aisle seat was a panic-flier, apparently. Buffy leaned forward to make a witty suggestion—death by flying? Honestly you'll probably be eaten by something first—when it happened.
The plane dropped out, pivoted, and caused Buffy to give an embarrassing, girlish scream.
When it was over, Buffy was aware of the girl in front of her asking the boy to her left, "Can I have my hand back?"
From that day forward, Buffy would never make fun of panic-fliers.
Two days later the rain started to pour and Buffy couldn't get a flight to Britain. The weatherman was going on and on about weird storms haunting England and Canada. Buffy ignored them because she planned to be far away from both countries when the worst of the storm hit.
That was what she thought, anyway.
But she was still in New York City when the tsunami hit and submerged it. No amount of Slayer strength or apocalypse-averting could stop the panicking that took over Buffy as she found herself staring up at hundred-foot wave as it closed around her.
It was like irony was kicking her shins and laughing at her simultaneously.
Because she had thought about the many ways she could die. Most had been violet and bloody and very, very bad.
Somehow… drowning hadn't ever crossed her mind.
Note: It's kinda pointless I know, but I thought, hey, that's a new idea. Why not right it down?
