"You have got to be kidding me!"
Emmaline Holden looked up from the psychology textbook she had been reading and glanced over at her boyfriend of nearly two years. He was sitting in front of their computer, scowling at something on the monitor. In the corner of the screen she could just make out the DC Comics logo. Shaking her head, she set her book down and walked over to see what had gotten him so upset.
When she had first started dating Jeremy she had been surprised to discover he was an avid comic book reader. And that just because he was a closet comic book fan didn't mean that he wasn't borderline obsessive about them at times. When she thought about how much money he dropped on them every month...
Standing behind him now, she set her hands on his shoulders and he turned his head to glance up at her. At her puzzled look he grimaced.
"They're doing a relaunch in September. They're changing everything! All the character development, their histories, heck the characters themselves - all gone. These...these things...are basically new characters that they've had the gall to go and hang the names of the old ones on." He gestured to the computer screen as if that would prove his point.
Emmalin finally glanced over at the computer screen at the picture of a young woman in an unfamiliar costume. She had to glance at the title to figure out who it was. And then, unable to help herself, she smirked.
"You're just upset Supergirl isn't in a miniskirt anymore."
"That goes without saying." Jeremy said absentmindedly as he moved the mouse to click on a link on the page.
"Ow!" He cried at the sudden, sharp pain on the back of his head. Reaching up, he rubbed at the spot where she'd smacked him, twisting around in his seat to see Emmalin walking back over to the couch. "What was that for?"
"That should go without saying." She said, allowing a slight note of irritation to creep into her voice.
Which Jeremy, to his credit, picked up on. "I love you. Sweetheart."
"I love you too. But if you ever make a comment like that again, comic book relaunches will be the least of your worries."
"Um. Right." Jeremy said.
He turned back to the computer, then appeared to think better of it. Closing down the browser, he got up and walked into the kitchen.
Peeking over the edge of her textbook, Emmalin watched him go, a slight smile tugging at the corners of her lips. A moment later she heard the sounds of him rummaging around in the fridge. This wouldn't last long she knew. But she definitely planned on taking advantage of it while it did. Setting her book down again, she followed him into the kitchen.
