This is my response to the January 2010 Challenge on the NCIS Special Ops board (challenge words are in bold).

It Seemed Like A Good Idea...

------------

Going undercover to catch a murder suspect is something NCIS agent did on a regular basis. It was a bonus that their suspect was supposed to attend a Halloween party at one of DC's most popular clubs.

It had seemed like a good idea at the time.

But in most cases, what sounds good in theory does not work in reality. Especially when reality consists of chasing down a suspect on a frigid autumn night dressed in a glorified fat suit.

A fat suit with a long, fuzzy tail.

Tony waved the brown, furry lump under McGee's nose.

"An Anteater?! Are you kidding me? I'll look like the freaking 'Holiday Armadillo'!"

"Sorry, Tony. This close to Halloween, they didn't have much left to choose from."

Apologetic words, but the smug smirk on McGee's face told a different story.

At least McGee didn't get to pick Ziva's costume, whose exotic looks were accentuated by her green-and-silver alien outfit, complete with curly metallic antenna. She'd been turning heads all night, but they quickly backed off after one brave (and stupid) man asked if she'd take him 'back to her spaceship', which resulted in threats of disembowelment.

"Stop!"

Unsurprisingly, the Petty Officer Anderson (the suspect) ignored Tony and kept running.

"Okay, that does it..."

Tony put on one final burst of speed and tackled Anderson around the knees, bringing them both the ground. He could feel the rough asphalt digging into his face, leaving tiny rocks and grit embedded in his skin.

Tony saw stars as the Petty Officer elbowed him in the face and scrambling out from under him. As he loomed over him, Tony could make out a flash of silver in his hand. A knife, most likely the same knife he used to murder his lover. Tony ducked under the blade, seized his wrist and twisted: Anderson let out a strangled scream as the knife fell from his limp fingers. Using a fighting move Gibbs taught him, he managed to flip the both of them over so that he was sitting astride his opponent.

"You're under arrest," he hissed in Anderson's ear.

As he read him his Miranda rights, he fished around in the costume for his handcuffs, but they had disappeared in amongst the hot and sweaty layers of fabric. Instead, he opted to sit on the suspect until backup arrived.

Speaking of backup...

"DiNozzo!"

Gibbs, McGee and a still-green Ziva skidded to a stop next to him, their weapons drawn.

Tony gave them a nonchalant wave as he sat upon their squirming, cursing suspect, his battered, bruised face twisting into a lopsided grin.

"What took you so long?"
