"Yeah... okay, thanks. How long did you say until the TARDIS will be ready again?" The Doctor said into River's house phone. River could hear a soft mummbling comming from the speaker, then the Doctor groaned and she had to bite her lip to keep from laughing. Thank goodness she was still looking at that book. "You too..." He hung up the phone and put it on the coffee table that sat between their chairs. "River..." He said to get her attention. She took a deep breath before looking at him.

It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word, you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain
What I hear when you don't say a thing

"He said the TARDIS should be fixed in a matter of two days..." The Doctor said, a destressed note hitting his voice. "What am i supposed to do for two days?"

"Well... you can sleep, you can go find some kind of trouble to get in to, or you can always, perhaps, stay with me." River said, putting stress on the last one.

"Well... i'm not really tired..."

"Doctor!" She said, letting some anger seep into her voice. He laughed and grinned at her.

"I'm kidding, River! So what's the plans for today?" He leaned back in his chair and inhaled the smell of flowers and pine needles. River closed her book, but kept her finger in the page she'd been reading.

The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says
You'll catch me whenever I fall
You say it best
When you say nothing at all

"Well we just ate lunch... half an hour ago. So it depends, do you want a home-cooked meal for dinner or take out?"

"Home cooked sounds fine to me."

"Well... if you don't mind, i'd like to finish reading, then we can decide where to go from there." She opened her book back up and he picked up the newspaper from the table beside the chair. Soon, River was totally concentrated on her book, but the Doctor was far from interested about the news.

All day long I can hear people
Talking out loud
But when you hold me near,
You drown out the crowd
Try as they may they could never define
What's been said
Between your heart and mine

Instead of looking at the paper that was now laying accross his legs, he took to watching her read. She was smiling, which probably meant that everything in the book was going well at the moment, and he could see it was nearing the end. Though he was unable to see the book's cover, he recognized it as one of her favorites. the pages looked warn and spreak out from how many times they had been read.

She flipped the page, and then his eyes wandered back up to her face. Most of her hair was up in a tight bun, as she normally did it now a days, but one clump of stubborn hairs stayed in her face, seemingly trying to distract her from her reading. Every few seconds, her hand would come up and try to tuck the hairs behind her ear, but they never stayed for very long. Her blue eyes were moving slowly down each page, soaking in every word that she most likely already had memorized.

The smile on your face
Lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes
Saying you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says
You'll catch me whenever I fall
You say it best
When you say nothing at all

The Doctor instinctively reached over and took her hand. She looked up at him, smiling warmly again. Then, too soon, her eyes returned to her book, but their hands stayed linked. It was then that a thought popped into his head. Maybe it would be worth it to have the TARDIS 'malfunction' more often.
