This one-shot is in memory of my Grandfather whom, although I've never met, is one of the most influential people in my life. I have been told of how I have his eyes and his same sense of humor. He died on April 10, holding my father's hand. It's because of him that I never feel alone even when no one is near me. I feel like this is a good way to honor relatives that aren't alive anymore. This story means a lot to me and I really hope you enjoy it.
I do not own the characters of this story.
"Mommy, what's wrong?" A little 9-year-old Renesmee asked. Her mother trembled in her father's arms.
"Daddy, is mommy ok?"
"No, Renesmee at the moment she isn't," he stared at her with sad eyes. He turned his attention back to Bella; "She is going through some rough times right now." A tug on Bella's hair brought her attention to the little angel standing before her. A small hand touched her cheek, showing her a picture of herself, smiling and laughing.
"Why aren't you like that mommy," Renesmee's eyes showing true interest. Bella stared at her daughter, a sad smile gracing her lips. Picking her up, she cuddled Renesmee against her chest.
"Baby, I'm sad because Grandpa Charlie's going away, and mommy's not sure were going to see him again." Renesmee stared at her mother with confused eyes.
"But mommy, where is he going? He said that he was going to watch a movie with me tomorrow, and then the day after that we were going to go to the aquarium. Does that mean he isn't coming?" Her mother started to shudder again. If she were human, tears would be rolling down her face.
"No, babe Grandpa isn't coming tomorrow, or the day after. Grandpa's leaving and he isn't coming back." Realization dawned on the little girls face, a small tear traveling down her face.
"Mommy, I don't want Grandpa to leave, he can't leave, he needs to stay with me, why isn't he staying, doesn't he love us anymore?" Her mother hugged her tighter, a dry sob escaping her lips.
"It's not that he doesn't love you and your mother anymore Renesmee, his body just isn't strong like ours. So now he has to leave, and where he is going we can't follow," her father said. Bella was beyond words, not caring who heard her cry.
"What happened to him?" Edward looked at Bella before continuing.
"Well Renesmee, Grandpa was sick and the doctors didn't find out soon enough. By the time he got help it was too late." The little girl started to shake like a leaf.
"Will we see him again?"
"I don't know sweetheart, some part of me prays we do." Renesmee started to cry along with her mother. It broke Edward's heart to see his two girls so sad.
"Why did this have to happen Edward," Bella cried out.
"You and I both knew this day would come Bella, there was nothing else we could do," he whispered.
"I know, it's just why did it have to be this way, why did he have to go right now!"
The small arms that wrapped around Bella's stomach calmed her down. Edward put his own arms around her and Renesmee.
"Mommy, is Grandpa going to be happy where he is going?" Alligator tears were rolling down the child's face. Bella nodded and hugged Renesmee closer.
"I hope so sweetie, I hope so."
I know this was really short but it was just a way for me to honor my Grandpa. I hope you liked it.
