An – Erm, this is a little odd but I could just see Rodney staring in horror and saying, 'how the hell did you get through the psych test' which turned out not to actually be in the fic but never mind.
Summary – It had started off small but someone needed to make sure Rodney got the respect he deserved. Possibly disturbing, very obsessive.
Disclaimer – I don't own them which I think is probably a good thing.
Rating – PG-13
Protect and Serve
It started off small.
Little tricks played against those who caused trouble.
Cold showers, quarters that were too hot or too cold. Transporters refusing to initialise…
Just simple stuff really, but it made Rodney smile and sometimes even laugh.
He liked Rodney's laugh, really liked it. So he decided to try something else.
A small accident and one of the pushier scientists who had been making noises found himself with a broken leg.
A marine who'd questioned Rodney's position on an offworld team found himself with a concussion and a crushed hand.
A terrible, terrible accident… But if he'd smiled as the marine had 'volunteered' to be permanently sent to the mainland who was going to question it?
Gradually though, the problems with this system become obvious.
Living in Atlantis was a dangerous business. Everyone who had come knew that and broken bones were considered par for the course.
This began lead to complacency when it came to being laid up in the infirmary. Especially if the patient in question didn't know they were being punished in the first place.
Hence, a more permanent solution was needed.
It took him a while to realise what needed to be done but it quickly became obvious when Rodney was captured while offworld with some of the marines that he'd trusted to take care of him.
And he was going to kill them but one look at their faces told him everything he needed to know. They were more than willing to turn right back around and go and find his missing scientist, regardless of Elizabeth's orders.
The traitorous bitch almost refused to let them go back as well and suddenly what he had to do became clear in his head.
Because he knew what was best for him even if Rodney didn't know it yet.
Rodney needed someone to keep him safe, someone who was willing to go to any lengths to make sure he got the respect he deserved, the understanding he deserved and the protection he deserved.
No one understood that yet, not even Rodney but they would know soon.
The scientists answered to Rodney and the military answered to him, it had been proven time and time again. Poor little Elizabeth had no one and didn't even realise it…
And when Rodney got back… Well, he was going to hand him Atlantis on a fucking plate.
