GriefJohn grieves as Rodney's best friend but he feels cheated, because he doesn't get to grieve for someone he loves.
Carson grieves openly as Rodney's lover but John knows that he loved Rodney just as much as Carson did, even if he can't show it.
You can't miss what never had, that's bullshit and in the end it doesn't matter.
Because who needs to miss what they never had when they can miss what they could have had?
And John got to watch what he could have had every day and now he knows he can never fix his mistake.
