"New school, huh?"

"New city."

"New country."

"This sucks cherries."

Annabelle looked knowingly at her stepsister, and smiled, shrugging. Bailey laughed and adjusted her messenger bag.

The cool sea breeze of Newport followed the two into Harbour High School, Bailey looking around at the students and Annabelle clutching both of their schedules. Annabelle looked to the room numbers and she grabbed Bailey's arm, pulling her back to their door. Bailey took the knob, turned it and pushed in, soon followed by Annabelle.

"May I help you ladies?" The picture of a small, middle aged, male teacher asked. He was obviously perturbed to be stopped in the middle of his lecture on Victorian literature and directed all the eyes of the classroom to the girls in punishment. Bailey cast a quick glance to Annabelle before stepping forward, smiling, to hand the man her papers. He looked down his nose at them and looked to her again. "Miss. Wood? There's an empty seat over by Mr. Cohen over there. Now, next young lady. "

Bailey took her papers and followed the man's finger to a mop of curly, dark brown hair. She sighed and looked to Annabelle, who was by with Mr. What's-his-name. Looking back, she walked to the chair next to Mr. Cohen and at down, not giving him a second glance.

"Miss Turner? Welcome, girls, to Harbour High. There is an empty seat by the window, there. I'm Mr. Jaemison and this is English Lit. " He said, trying in vain to be nice. Annabelle walked silently to the empty seat, 2 rows and 3 seats from Bailey. She looked to Bailey and gave her a sympathetic smile while Bailey gestured to Mr. Cohen, who appeared to be sleeping. Bailey giggled and he bolted up, looking around and to his visitor.

"New?" he asked, the words near coming out like a jumbled mess. Bailey shrugged and nodded, sweeping away a bunch of hair from her face. "Just moved here." He nodded and extended a hand.

"Seth Cohen, pleasure to meet you. You have an accent. Might I ask where you came from?" he replied, while she shook his hand gently.

"New Zealand. Annabelle, over there, is my stepsister. " She said, looking towards him. Seth nodded, obviously impressed. Bailey yawned and leaned her head on the table, directing bleary eyes to Seth. "When do we get out of here?" she mumbled, glancing from the teacher to him and back again. Seth pulled up his sleeve and looked at his watch. "About... 15 minutes. What do you have next?" He leaned over and grabbed her schedule from next to her. She looked up as he surveyed it and leaned down to meet her.

"You've got about every class but Art 3 and Band, with me. Care for a tour guide?" he whispered and Bailey's brows furrowed.

"Sure," she replied and closed her eyes. Gone until Annabelle or Seth would shake her awake.

~~~Annabelle~~~ Annabelle looked at Bailey. She smiled and turned away. Well, maybe this year won't be so bad she thought. Her sister was talking to some guy.
"Hi! I'm Marissa. Are you new to Harbour?" Annabelle turned to her. "Yeah, me and my step sis just came in from New Zealand." Another girl turned to her.
"New Zealand? Oh my god, they have, like, the cutest guys. I'm summer." She said, smiling. "I'm Annabelle and that's my step sis, Bailey, talking to that guy."
"Ew, Cohen?"
"Noo... Bailey."
"No, I mean his name is Seth Cohen." Summer replied with a scoff. Annabelle blushed. "Oh, I'm sorry!" Summer shrugged. "It's okay." She replied. Marissa smiled and shook her head.
"Well, do you want to sit with us at lunch?" Annabelle bit her lower lip and sighed. "I was kind of sitting with Bailey."
"She can come. I'd love to meet her!" Marissa said, smiling. Annabelle nodded just as the bell rang. They all walked out and she met up with a groggy looking Bailey. "Fell asleep, huh?" Bailey nodded and sighed, rubbing her eyes. And smearing her eyeliner in the process.
"English lit is still English lit, no matter what continent. Just the New Zealanders were English so they know it better than these Yanks." She said, smiling. Annabelle giggled and nodded. "Where do you go next?"
Bailey sighed and looked at her schedule, then around for Seth. "Uh, Trig. What about you?" "Aquatic Science. Hope it's as fun as it is on the islands. "
"Yeah, well. See you at lunch." Bailey said, smiling. She gave Annabelle a small wave before jogging off to catch up with Seth. Annabelle sighed and turned around, only to be hit head on by a blue shirted brick wall. She fell flat on her but and her messenger bag fell of and flew a few feet behind her.
"Oh sorry. You okay?" Annabelle looked up at the guy and looked around her then to his extended hand. She took it and nodded. "Yeah thanks. Just a spill. " He nodded and sighed. "Sorry, I'm Ryan." he explained and Annabelle nodded again. "Annabelle." Ryan nodded and looked down the hall. "You new?" "Yeah, my step sis and I just moved here."
"What are you going to next?"
"Aquatic Science, you?"
"Spanish, I can walk you there." Ryan said, nodding. Annabelle smiled and nodded too. "Thanks." Ryan smiled to her and she smiled back, butterflies in her stomach. And sadly, they came to their classes soon. She sighed and looked to her classroom. "Thanks again, Ryan." She replied and he nodded. "No problem." Then walked into his own classroom. Annabelle sighed and walked into her own room, showing the teacher her papers and sitting down. And then she near fell asleep. It was going to be a long year.
~~~Bailey~~~ "Trig sucks cherries." Bailey muttered, glaring at the white sheet of paper of near in-comprehensible problems in front of her. Their numbers swan and Bailey leaned over to Seth, hoping for a little help. Any help with any kind of math would be welcome. He looked to her paper and sighed. "I don't get it either."

Then, as if set off by their own desperation, the bell rang and Bailey smiled. Lunch, thank god. She shouldered her messenger bag and followed Seth out of the room. "Where do we go to eat?" She asked, looking up to him. He smiled and replied, "Follow me."

Bailey shrugged and did as she was told. ~~~ Annabelle left the classroom quickly and looked around. "Hey! Annabelle, right?" A voice said, coming up behind her. She turned and saw Summer and smiled. "Yeah, Summer. Do you have lunch now?" Summer smiled and began walking with Annabelle in tow.

"Don't worry, we'll find Bailey and we can all sit together!" She smiled and pushed open the doors to the cafeteria.

~~~
"Mmm, sushi and coffee." Bailey smiled, holding up a cup of hot coffee in one hand and the tray of sushi and soy sauce in the other. Seth smiled and led her to the usual table where Ryan was already picking at his own food.
"Yo, what's up, buddy?" Seth said, setting down his food and pulling out a chair for Bailey. She giggled and sat down. "Thanks, Seth." she answered and took a sip of her coffee. And cringed. "Ew... no sugar." She sighed, got up, and went to get sugar.
Ryan watched her go then looked to Seth. "Who was that?" He asked. Seth smiled and replied, "Bailey Wood. New girl from New Zealand." Ryan nodded then his brows furrowed. "She has a step sister, doesn't he?" Seth nodded. "Annabelle."
"Yeah, I ran into her after 3rd period. Aquatic science." Ryan said then smiled. "They're cute."
Bailey found Annabelle on her way out to the patio. She smiled and caught up to her. "Seth is hot and I don't care what you say. " she said and laughed. Annabelle laughed too and stopped Marissa and Summer to introduce them to her.
"Bail, this is Marissa and Summer. They're in our English Lit class. Marissa and Summer, this is my stepsister, Bailey. " Bailey smiled and nodded politely, just hoping they wouldn't comment on her accent. They smiled in return and Bailey showed her coffee to Annabelle. "Not as good as Fidel's. Especially after a long surfing session. Yum."
