I whipped around as fast as I could, narrowly avoiding outstretched claws armed for my throat. The Darkforest cat let out a hiss of frustration. He launched at me head on, slamming me into the warriors den. Pain seared through me as the impact spread across my body. Biting back a wail, I staggered to my paws. My vision was fussy and I was unstable to the point where I was about to fall over. But as long as the battle went on, I knew I had to fight.
The enemy advanced, once again going for the kill. I rolled to the side, slashing the tom's muzzle. He was stunned for a brief moment, arousing the perfect opportunity to end him. Without a heartbeat of hesitation I was on him. I had the tom on his back and firmly pinned to the ground. He widened his eyes in fear. I closed mine and sunk my teeth into his exposed neck. A high pitched yowl escaped the now wildly thrashing tom. I bit down harder and harder, until the tom went limp.
'That was my sixth kill today' I thought. It was against my every instinct and the warrior code to kill another cat in order to win a battle. But this was the only way. If we didn't kill them, they'd kill us first. If they were going to fight like rogues, they deserved to die like one.
Out of the corner of my eye I spotted a young RiverClan apprentice against a massive she-cat. The apprentice, also a she-cat, was losing. I rushed to her aid, and together we took her down. It was as if we trained together our entire lives.
"Thanks! I though I was a goner for sure!" The Riverclan she-cat exclaimed. "I'm Troutpaw by the way."
"Whitewing. Why are you here?"
"After we won our battle, we met up with Shadowclan and Windclan so we could send the stronger cats to aid Thunderclan. Now we're sure to win!"
"In order to win we need to fight." I reminded her.
Her eyes shone with confidence as she nodded. "Good luck." She dashed off into the chaos leaving me to do the same. I closed my eyes, took a moment to collect my self. A heartbeat later they snapped open and with a yowl I continued the fight for my life, the lives of my clan mates, and the lives waiting to be lived.
