Disclaimer: If I owned this, I'd have the money to make my house completely HP themed. But since my house isn't completely plastered in Ravenclaw and Slytherin colors, I obviously don't.

Hermione sighed as she watched the walls of the restaurant where shadows created by the dim candles on the tables were dancing. Nervously, she clutched the dark green pendant around her neck that she had yet to remove. She tried to focus on something other than the jittery thoughts floating around in her head, but not even the opposing savory and sweet smells of the food surrounding her were able to take her mind off of him. In another attempt to calm herself, she recited her favourite charms. While Wingardium Leviosa should have reminded her of simpler times, all it did was bring up memories of her previous disaster of a relationship with Ron. Needless to say, it hadn't ended well, and Hermione had needed the better part of a year to work through everything that had happened.

"Get ahold of yourself," she said internally. "Now is not the time to be thinking about Ron. You should be thinking about your future."

Unfortunately, this thought got the butterflies stirring in her stomach and reminded her of the fact that her date was late by almost ten minutes. His punctuality was a given at this point in their relationship, it being one of the many qualities they shared.

Her fingers reached up again to grasp her cherished necklace. Hermione briefly wondered if she should make a wish, seeing as her other attempts to assuage herself hadn't worked.

"Don't be stupid, not all things you believed in as a kid are true now," she scolded herself. The next few minutes were occupied by deep breaths, but to no avail.

"You know what, screw it. I'm doing it," she thought. With one hand, Hermione grabbed the pendant and with the other hand, crossed her fingers under the table. She pictured him the day they said "I love you" for the first time.

"I wish…"

The door of the restaurant opened and he entered, smiling. She stood to hug him and then turned around to signal the server. Behind her, he brushed the blond hair away from his face and said, "Sorry I'm so late, the jewelers apparently don't know how to put emeralds in a ring well enough and I want it to be perfect for you."

He got down on one knee just as she whirled around, her mouth open in surprise.
