A/N: An idea that came while writing Way Back Into Love, totally unrelated in any which way. This merely another alternate future the two may share.
Pairing: TezuFuji
Summary: Fuji wants to overcome the Tezuka haunting his every thought and defeating the real one seemed like the best way to do that.

They had a match. Tezuka won. It had been close, real close, but Fuji had lost. Again. He couldn't win against Tezuka.

As Fuji turned away from Tezuka, he felt the slow trickle of his tears. A smile makes its way to his face. He couldn't face Tezuka. It seemed too much at that moment to face the person he wanted most and couldn't have.

"Fuji." Tezuka's voice carried a note of concern.

"I'm fine." Fuji definitely did not sound fine, but Tezuka didn't know what to do. The match after all had been Fuji's idea.

*~**--FLASHBACK--**~*

Fuji wanted to forget. Forget the loneliness. Forget the pain. Forget the person causing the pain.

He couldn't.

If I beat him, will I forget him?

To Fuji, it had been worth a shot. He called then, the first time in two years. No one was more surprise than he.

Tezuka had answered on the first ring. Fuji hoped he wouldn't, it didn't give Fuji much time to collect himself.

"Yes?" The deep voice at the other end sent shivers down his spine.

"Tezuka."

"Fuji?"

"Ne, Tezuka, let's have a match. Are you free this Saturday?"

"This is a bit unexpected, but, yes, I am free on Saturday."

"Then can you meet me at the –Courts at 11?"

"Fine."

*~**--END FLASHBACK--**~*

They met at the appointed time. They played their match. And Fuji had lost.

Will I ever forget?

Hands gently wipe away the tears that had begun to flow freely. Fuji looked up at the owner of said hands, and blinked in surprise.

Tezuka.

"You call me after two long years and now you're going to just walk away?"

Tezuka.

"I…Tezuka, I can't…I…I love you." It came out as barely a whisper. Fuji silently cursed himself for saying the one thing he shouldn't have said.

Tezuka.

"I know." His former captain leaned in. Fuji found himself pressed against Tezuka, lips pressed against lips. "I was waiting for you to say something."

Tezuka.

Fuji wrapped his arms around Tezuka. That familiar smile slowly made its way back to his face. A little twinkle returned to his deep blue eyes. Standing on tip-toes, Fuji kissed Tezuka this time.

"Fuji. I love you too."

Fuji's smile at that moment could not have been more brilliant. The idiotic grin on Fuji's face shifted slightly into a more mischievous smirk. It was gone in a second, replaced yet again by his brilliant smile, but it did not escape Tezuka's notice.

Tezuka held the smaller boy wondering offhandedly if he had made a mistake. But when he saw the smile again, he knew he hadn't.

"Tezuka, I'm glad you won."

*~**--OMAKE--**~*

Tezuka looked at the plant in disdain.

"No, Fuji. We have enough already."

The tensai pouted ever so slightly. "But Tezuka, it's so lonely."

"No, we have more than enough cacti at home as it is."

The pout deepened. "Please?"

Tezuka glanced at the smaller boy. The second he did, he realized his mistake.

Tezuka sighed. "Fine."

Fuji's smile was brighter than any star in the sky, including the sun.

For the millionth time since that day on the courts, Tezuka wondered who really won.
