She sat on the horizontal piece of metal, gulping air unsteadily. Her legs were dangling precariously over the water, and tears fell down her face and into the sea below. She was trying to work up the courage to shift her weight just that little bit, allowing her to plummet to blissful death. Her parents left her before she could even remember anything, and she was left to that shitty orphanage in Ukraine. Her mind spiraled down that path for countless minutes, and the flow of salty tears became more steady against her pale skin.
She reached one slender hand up to touch the dog tag necklace that rested low on her sternum. It was the only thing that she had from her parents... And the object was a mystery in itself. How she had managed to keep it with her, she didn't know, but she was determined to cling to at least that part of her birth parents. She ran her thumb over the text engraved in the metal, every word ingrained permanently into her brain. She set her blue-gray gaze over the cityscape. She had always loved heights, they calmed her. Apparently not now though. The girl felt conflicted; she loved her parents but she hated them at the same time. She felt lost.
Maybe they were dead.
The thought had crossed her mind many times before, making her want to take the jump and cross over to the other side with them. She impatiently wiped her eyes with her sleeve. She was such a chicken... The teen steeled her nerves and took a deep, shuddering breath. She began shifting her weight forward to take the plunge, when a firm hand clamped around her wrist.
"I'm afraid I can't let you do that."

Prologue's kind of short... The rest of the chapters will be longer, promise.
