Chapter One

RedLeap and I are walking in the forest again. Why does she always want to sneak out late at night? But anyways we are really close to the border.. "Red!" I called "Don't you think we are to close to the Riverclan border?" "Pfft! Are you saying that you're denying the challenge...?" "Never!" I cried indignantly. " What makes you think I'd turn down one of your mouse-brained ideas?" "Let's go!" Then I started running to the river. "It must be cold." I think. Then I jump in! "Stupid, stupid RushStep! What are you doing? Get back to shore" I think. To late. Is that a kit? On the stepping stones? But the river is to high! He'll drown! I'll drown! "No!" I screech as he falls in "RedLeap look at what you've done! Now that kit is going to drown and so am I! Neither of us have a clue how to swim!" A cat appears on the Riverclan side of the river. I've never seen this cat before.. Where's he from? "This kit was supposed to be a leader! But thanks to your ignorance he is going to die!" Wait what? I think "Who are you?"I say

"I am his mother. I passed away when I was giving birth to him and his sisters." Suddenly a cat jumps out of the river! "Beautiful, graceful, powerful... No RushStep! Eyes on the kit! He can't drown!" I think

"Wishkit? Wishkit!" She shrieks in recognition. "No.. No!" She cries as she jumps into the river where the kit, Wishkit, went under. I look and look for them both as the water pulls me into rocks and logs, hoping they live. The silver-blue she cat emerges from the water with the golden-furred Wishkit, dangling from her jaws. "He's alri-" I cut off as I'm dragged under the water again. I try to shriek out in pain as my head hits a rock, but remember I'm under water. Everything goes black as I run out of air..

I feel a tugging on my scruff as I'm dragged from the water. Then I open my eyes to the beautiful she-cat from before. "Wait!" I think "I've seen her before!" "Yes I know.. Shadowclan cats don't swim.. I used to be a riverclan cat." "I know!" I cry indignantly. "We'll then whats with that dumbfounded look on your face?" "I- I- um- " I stutter. "I'm RiverJade. Or Kade. Or Jade that shines on river bottom. " she says
