Change Of Heart

I don't know why I didn't post this when I finished it a few days ago... But, anyway, characters not mine. References Greg's attitude in 'You Kill Me'. Enjoy!

While Greg Sanders had a lot to be thankful this year, he was not currently, what one would call happy. Last night when he came in to shift, he'd been thrilled. Thrilled about the first Thanksgiving he and Nick would be spending together.

That high, however, only lasted about an hour. Nick called to tell him that his family had come up and there was no way they could be together tonight, because they didn't know and Nick wasn't ready to tell them. Greg accepted that, he really did, but he'd pretty much been told not to go to his own home tonight and that did not make for a happy Greg Sanders.

Everyone noticed, how could they not, when his attitude was on par with a teenage girl told she couldn't go to Prom. No one asked him why he was acting this way, though. He got an odd look here and there, and an especially befuddled expression from Grissom, but he just stalked away toward the locker room to change and go back to his lonely and seldom used apartment.

His plans were interrupted, however, when he spotted Nick's Tahoe in the parking lot. He had definitely not been expecting that.

"Greggo!" The smooth, familiar Texan voice reached his ears and he felt better than he had since before Nick's phone call.

He approached the vehicle slowly, confused as to what exactly was going on. Then he noticed Nick's parents were in the car as well. "Wha--?"

"I told them." Nick started. "I felt horrible when I called you, G. Hell, we're practically living together, I can't just tell you that you can't come home. Besides, I want to be with you today, too…"

If Greg's smile had been any bigger, it would have split his face in two. "Really?"

Nick nodded. "Yeah, in fact, I was wondering… you know, if you maybe wanted to move in. On a more permanent basis…"

Shocked, enough to be rendered speechless, in fact, he managed an enthusiastic nod.

The Texan grinned, and Greg heard Nick's mother 'aww' at their little show.

"Hey, Bill, Jillian." He'd met Nick's parents on numerous other occasions, sometimes under less pleasant circumstances. "Sorry to surprise you."

"Oh, honey, it was no surprise." Jillian laughed, having had a feeling for several years.

"Speak for yourself." Bill replied, though he seemed to be okay with everything.

Nick was beaming, the combination of finally telling his parents and asking Greg to move in overwhelming. "G, what do you say we go home and have our first Thanksgiving feast?"

And in just those few moments, his bad mood had evaporated completely; he climbed into the backseat with Jillian quickly, knowing better than to keep two hungry Texan men from their food. "I say, best Thanksgiving ever."
