It was raining. The sky was a dark shade of grey, no clouds to be seen; it was a cataract, a sheet pulled over the usually bright red Makaian sky. I smiled, tilted my head up to let the water cool my fevered brow. My hair was soaked, my clothes clung to me; it was calm.

"You're going to catch your death out here."

I smiled, reaching my arms out to catch water in my palms. Silently, I looked over my shoulder, inviting my lover to come stand with me. "Nothing can get me, Kuro." He smiled sofltly, boots crunching dying leaves as he came to wrap his arms around my waist. "We're invicible," I whispered, resting my head on his shoulder, "We are the shadows that steal from the blind." I felt his breath brush over my neck in a soft laugh. "We're also soaking wet." This was true; the rain came down in sheets, heavying our hair and clothing, chilling us to the bone.

Quietly, Kuronue's fingers laced with mine, raising my hand to his lips. He brushed a kiss against my knuckles, holding them there as though I would try to pull away. My nerves buzzed, every pore screaming out in excitement. His wings came around me; they, too, embraced me warmly. "Traitors and murderers" he whispered, "in the ruthless and the cunning, a deep beauty - a sunken beauty." The rain echoed off his hat, his leather vest that would never keep him warm. I traced the muscles in his arms; arms that swung Kusari-gama with perfect grace; my deadly beauty. My weapons needed no case, no cloth to carry them; like us, they needed only the freedom and the rain. I twisted a rose vine around my wrist.

"This heist will be our best," my lover whispered. I turned in his embrace to press my lips to his; the softest gesture of intimacy that spoke volumes.

"It will be perfect..."

The rain fell all night.
