What should have been
Summary: Gaara's perspective about how things should have turned out.

Gaara had always wondered how things would turn out right after their stay at konoha. Now, the answer was staring him in the face.
If you had asked him a few years back about what today would be, he would answer you I a way that you'd be very surprised.
First he would recap his dark past and tell you how he got over it with the help of a certain Uzumaki Naruto. Then he would trail off and tell you about a boy that he found most intriguing during that time, someone who had similarities with him, someone who had the same darkness reflected in is eyes.
Uchiha Sasuke.
He would then describe Sasuke to you in vivid detail, as if the past had only happened a few days instead of years ago. He'd tell you how it was before he would transition to how it should have been.....
....in his mind at the very least.
He'll tell you how Uchiha Sasuke should have been saved by Uzumaki Naruto and himself. He'd tell you that he, along with Sasuke, got over their dark past with the help of one another.
Then he'll pause and smile, shaking his head. You'll see a certain light in his eyes just before he tells you that after they both got over the past, he'd confess to Sasuke that he loves him, and that that will be the reason that they would both completely move on.
He'll go silent for a while and apologize to you, saying he has to get prepared for a meeting.
Taking the hint, you would just smile and nod in understanding. You understand how hard it must have been for him to recall those thoughts, so you just let it pass and leave the office.
Gaara, the present Suna Kazekage, had always wonder how thing would turn up after his stay at konoha. He'll recall everything from the past and formulate, or as the brave say: fantasize, about the future.
Unfortunately, the future was here.
What "will be" is "now".
The present isn't the result of confessions and friendships. It is the result of darkness that was never overcome.
And now..it was staring at him in the face.
