A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS: Midnight Movies
A Series of Unfortunate Events is property of HarperCollins.
Duncan Quagmire had opted to stick around the house for his date with Moira. Besides, it was a Thursday- and that meant a midnight movie on the local TV station. And Moira Tucker loved midnight movies. Hopefully, this date would not crash and burn.
Late that night, the feature started.
"Don't touch that dial! It's me- Wyatt 'Daring' Hudson! Tonight's feature film is THE MACHINIST!" The host announced.
"I love that movie!" Moira squealed.
The film started, and the date followed a half-second later.
"Dun, you're a peach!" Moira chirped.
Duncan sighed. It could have been worse. The film's plot progressed.
"HELP!" The film's heroine- a cheerleader named Kelly Graham- exclaimed as she was being kidnapped by the mad scientist's thugs.
Just then, Duncan felt Moira's weight shift from the couch to his lap. The poor man put two and two together and determined that Moira was trying to find security.
"Popcorn?" Duncan experimentally asked.
"Thanks!" Moira replied.
The film continued, with Duncan finally working up the energy to riff on it and make sarcastic comments. Meanwhile, Moira was finishing off the dried apricots that she had brought.
"X-1206, prepare the subject for the procedure." The film's villain- the titular Machinist- ordered his robotic companion.
"What's your real name, Machinist? Hugo?" Duncan commented.
Just then, the intermission occurred.
"Don't touch that dial! We'll be right back!" Wyatt Hudson announced.
Moira took this opportunity to raid Isadora's secret stash of assorted candy bars. Duncan fell asleep on the couch. 10 minutes later, Moira returned with her snacks, and the movie started again. Duncan resumed his sarcastic commentary. The film continued, with Moira periodically being so scared that she leaped into Duncan's lap. The film ended with Kelly having to adjust to life as a cyborg- since the Machinist had turned her into one earlier in the film.
"Next week- THE MONSTER FROM THE BLACK MESA!" Wyatt Hudson exclaimed as the film wrapped up.
"Can we do that again, Dun?" Moira asked Duncan.
"Yes, Moira." Duncan answered.
Then, Moira and Duncan finally gave a mutual kiss. Duncan could swear that Moira was wearing orange-flavored lipstick again…but who would know?
