Snow pattered the ground. Paw prints showed on the forest floor. The cats paws disturbed the soft white snow. Fence covered her territory, preserving her from the outside. Ever since the work-folk destroyed the forest to build a Black Path, the cat was feeling more and more lonley. Ever since Smudge moved away, the cat's heart feel to pieces. Hattie's paws brused the snow. Her feet grew numb and she bounded inside her housefolks den. Her cat-door flipped after her. She padded over to her food bowl and flipped some foodpelts into her mouth with her tongue. She chewed it up and took a long sip of water.

A loud clank through the den meant her housefolk where back. Their kit raced across the den carring a box. It placed the box next to Hattie's nest and opened it. A small black and ginger kitten jumped out. Hattie hissed and the kit grabbed the kitten away from her. The housefolk kit hissed at Hattie and squeaked to the kitten. Hattie leapt away, she heard the kitten purr and Hattie climbed out of the cat-door.

Hattie leapt over the fence, her hind legs scraping the wood. She heard the kitten inside mewling. Hattie growled and leapt away. She ran all the way to Cody's house. Hattie peeked threw the window and noticed Cody in her nest, three kits suckling in her milk. Hattie huffed and returned home. The kitten slept in HER bed. Eating HER food. Playing with HER toys. The ginger and black kitten noticed Hattie and padded up to her on steady legs.

"Hi, I'm Wintress. I was a present for the kit."

Hattie stared at the the kitten, puzzled. "Present?"

"Oh, for Christmas. Its a day that you have family over and eat food and give gifts and sing songs."

Hattie nodded but confusion still flodded her.

Hattie stalked away and took her bed back.
