After everyone had gone Ianto wandered up to Jacks office – as he did every night. The sight that greeted him as he entered was Jack sitting behind his desk looking, if possible, slightly nervous.
'What's up lover?' Ianto asked seating himself on the opposite side of the desk, facing Jack. The older man smiled and reached across to grasp Iantos hands in his.
'Ianto, this may sound… a little strange but, it's for the good of the team… and it'll make the paperwork a whole lot easier.'
'Ok…?' Ianto was a bit confused but he hid it well as he waited patiently for his boyfriend to continue.
'Yan, as you know, you and Martha share a surname and, to be frank, admin-wise it's a nightmare. I don't know how many times I've had to explain to UNIT that I have not employed your new wife – you don't even have a wife. It's insane, they're meant to be clever! Anyway… Yan… Ianto Jones… I was wondering if you would consider… changing your name…' As he said the last sentence, Jack produced a small box from his pocket and got down on one knee in front of a stunned Ianto. '… to Mr Ianto Harkness…' he opened the box revealing a beautiful gold ring with an inscription carved around it in a pretty looped script. '… Ianto, will you marry me?'
Ianto was speechless, he pulled Jack up and kissed him, expressing all the love and yeses in the world.
Jack placed the ring on Iantos finger as they made their way down to Jacks little bedroom. They went there every night, but tonight was going to be extra special.
It wasn't until the next morning, as Gwen and Martha fussed and squealed over the ring that Ianto realised what it had engraved on it.
Our love is like your coffee – hot, strong and it never runs out.
