This is the first in a series of one-shots on Naruto pairings. If you have any pairings you'd like to see, feel free to make a request. I hope to get to seventy total.
The first pairing is Shikamaru and Temari. This is one of my favorite pairings because they act like how people in love act and not like a Hollywood film or Romeo and Juliet spoof.
Awkward
Shikamaru, I don't know what I saw in you. You're lazy, a smart alec, and you couldn't be bothered to do anything. I remember that when we fought, that annoying kid, Naruto, he had to push you out of the stands so you'd fight. You were clever during our fight though, I'll give you that. But really! At the end you just forfeited! I'm not sure if that shows strength or weakness. Then, when you led the team that tried to bring that Sasuke kid back, we met again. The sound ninja, she was fighting you and it looked like you might die. I entered the fight, working with you, protecting you. We were allies and it felt right. Three years passed, we encountered each other on missions occasionally. Now I'm in Konoha for a while, because of overseeing the Chunin Exams. We're working together again. Once again, it feels right and familiar. I don't know what will happen between us, but maybe we can unscramble our feelings. Maybe this can stop being so awkward.

Temari, did she do something to my head? What a drag, this feeling doesn't seem to go away. Dad always said that when I meet a woman I'll be willing to do anything for her. Mom's like a slave driver to him, he doesn't really have choice. Woman seem like such a drag, I mean they're all so bossy. It's ridiculous! But after everything that's happened, I can't stop thinking about Temari. It's so damn awkward! What a drag...
