PROLOUGUE

I awaken. I'm cold and hungry. My mother is gone, along with my brothers and sisters. The thought of them hits me like the twoleg monster that my father got hit with. Then I heard a rustle of undergrowth. I bolt like lightning through this strange forest, unlike my forest, with the occasional tree and bush. This forest had tall pines, that seemed to reach so high upward I felt as if I was trapped in an endless tunnel. Not much sunlight was able to shine through the trees. If it did, it was very dim at the moment. As I tore through the forest, my eyes didn't meet my surroundings, or the upcoming rabbit hole.

For a few heartbeats, time had no meaning as I slowly fell into the oversized hole. I started to lose hope, as I thought. This must be what my father felt as he got ripped apart, piece by piece. Then, what can only be a miracle happened. As I was yowling and begging for mercy, the hope returned. Yes, I just heard another cat. Then, I saw him. He had a reddish colored pelt, and gray eyes. He was the most handsome tom I'd ever seen in all of my moons. He mewed, worriedly. His voice radiated off my now bleeding pelt, his words like silk fur.

"Are you okay? You fell hard." My mind can only manage to think of one sentence to say.

"I love you." It was as if only he was keeping me alive, not anything else. Then, I realized the truth. This tom was my present, and future. I had no other choice. Foxpelt was my destiny.
