Summary: "This is your second chance at love, Severus, take it for God's sake!" Lorelei Easton had been madly in love with Severus Snape since the first moment she laid eyes on him. The only thing that stood in the way of getting what she wanted was Lily Evans. Lorelei didn't like to lose, especially not to Evans. The question is; what does Evans have that Lorelei doesn't?
Warnings: Frequent mild-language.
Ships: Severus Snape/Lorelei Easton (OC of mine), Snily; Unrequited.
Beta: No, all the mistakes you may find are simply my own. I do not have a Beta, nor will I ever have one. I'd like one but I doubt I'd find one so I'm just going to continue writing my stories in peace and not wait on a Beta that will probably never come.
A/N: I have re-written it and I hope its way better than it was to begin with. I read it through the other day (after my friend found this account that I never wanted anybody to know of) and I judged myself so hard because my spelling, grammar and punctuation was simply awful. I'm the girl who strives for A's so if I see even a tiny mistake I flip out. I can't believe I even posted that, I apologise to those who had to read that monstrosity. I hope this is up to standard and makes actual sense and is written grammatically correct. I can't even deal with all those damn spelling errors and nothing even made sense like WTF. What was I even thinking? Oh gosh, that'll haunt me for the rest of my life! I hope this is better, even if only slightly, but if not do not hesitate to tell me! I love you all, please don't be shy – I'd love it if you left me a review! xo
Second Chance at Love
Prologue
"Mum," asked a little girl with short, curly, brown hair. She had big, round, brown eyes that sparkled in the light. She had a heart-shaped face that always held a smile. Even though it was forbidden to smile in public. Her parents had told her countless times that if she ever smiled in the presence of anybody but them, she'd be 'punished'.
Of course, that was just what they said when she smiled in front of other people. The other pure-bloods would talk if they didn't discipline their child. However, they talked anyway. Their methods of parenting weren't the 'ideal' way and it was frowned upon.
Eleven years.
That's how long it took before Lorelei Easton knew her place.
She was seen but never heard.
She had freedom of speech in her own home when only her parents were around but if they ever had guests, she never spoke – that was the way it had always been.
Except today, she couldn't contain the excitement in her voice when she asked her mother if she would be going to Hogwarts too.
"No silly," laughed her mother, Kira Easton. "I'm far too old, sweetie," she added, crouching down to be eye-level with her only child. That was also something she wasn't allowed to do in public but today, the rules were thrown out the window.
Today was a special day.
Lorelei pouted, "Why not mummy?"
Kira smiled and fixed her daughter's hair, "Because it's your turn now. Go make mummy and daddy proud, okay?"
It was rare that her mother talked about herself and Lorelei's dad in third person and it was even rarer for Lorelei to address her parents as 'Mum' or 'Mummy'.
Today was indeed a special day that held no rules.
Lorelei nodded and flashed a beautiful smile, "Okay mummy." Kira smiled, "Good, now c'mon before you're late for your first day!"
A grunt came from the doorway of the kitchen, "Do not encourage her, Kira. Or else she'll never learn and then, she'll get picked on by all the other kids," stated Nolan Easton. He usually encouraged it but today was a very important day.
Lorelei was going to Hogwarts – and thank god she got in because if she'd been a Squib, they'd of been in a lot of trouble – and she needed to learn her place. Of course, Nolan never doubted that her daughter knew her place in society.
She was, after all, from a much respected pure-blooded family.
The Easton's had been around for as long as anybody could remember – maybe even as long as the Potter's and the Black's - it was just that they had recently moved to London. They were rather good acquaintances with the Black's. They often baby-sat the two boys, Sirius and Regulus.
Sometimes the Black's offered to baby-sit as well.
Sirius and Lorelei were pretty good friends and the parents had devised a plan to get them to marry once they were of age. Nolan wasn't a big fan of arranged marriages so he just hoped they fell in love on their own but Kira had been so disappointed that he didn't shoot the idea down as quickly as she'd hoped. He'd taken far too long to respond, meaning he had really considered it.
Arrange marriages were praised in the Wizarding World but Kira wasn't a big fan of it.
She was just lucky that Nolan wasn't a bad guy….despite recent events.
Nolan shook his head, making his long black hair frame his face. He closed his eyes for a brief moment before looking at Kira and smiling softly at her. She doesn't need to know what he did. That's a secret he'll take to his grieve. She's got far too much to worry about right now anyway.
"C'mon take my hand, sweetheart," he said, turning to Lorelei. "We're going now," he added, just in case she was unaware of what was happening. Lorelei smiled up at her father, taking his hand. It wasn't the first time they had 'apparated' somewhere. She was quite comfortable with it.
"I'm ready, pa," she smiled gently at her hero.
…
Lorelei craned her neck around, trying to see if she could spot her only friend. She hadn't seen him on the Platform so she was hoping to see him on the Train. He had promised her she could sit with him so where was he?
She grumbled and decided to keep on looking. She didn't notice the boy who was a few feet from her, who wasn't paying attention either. His attention was glued to a girl beside him, who was grumbling about 'arrogant boys'.
So, naturally, they collided.
Lorelei felt sparks, if she put it simply.
He held out his hand to help her up, as soon as their skin touched once more, she felt safe for the first time in her life and she loved it. She looked up and sent the boy a kind smile. He had short, black hair and dark eyes. He had a pretty pair of eyes, Lorelei noted. He smiled, sheepishly. Her smile merely widened.
"I'm sorry about that," they both blurted out at the same time. Their cheeks grew hot and their looked away. "I..," Lorelei started but faltered. Severus bit his bottom lip before he opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. Lorelei giggled.
Then the boy laughed in return.
He had such a nice laugh, Lorelei noted.
"I'm Lorelei, by the way," she spoke with a quiet voice but her tone held confidence. He smiled at her, sticking his hand out, "Severus," he whispered, shyly. He looked up, his eyes connecting with her brown orbs. They held their stare for quite a while before Lorelei blinked and remembered what he'd said.
He had such a handsome name, Lorelei noted.
Just as Severus went to open his mouth to say something somebody had cut in. "Sev! We have got to get a compartment before they're all full!" Lorelei turned to see a redhead girl standing beside him, arms crossed, glaring daggers at her. Lorelei took a step back, feeling slightly intimidated.
"Alright, alright," Severus said, after a long pause. "I'm coming Lils," he said, standing to following 'Lils'. He turned back to Lorelei with a soft smile, "See you around, yeah?"
Lorelei nodded, "You can count on it," she chirped. Even if her mood had suddenly dropped. She nodded at Severus as she watched him turn away and walk the opposite way.
Towards the redhead girl who had almond-shaped, emerald green eyes. She was a rare kind of beauty and Severus obviously knew that.
Lils was the competition, Lorelei noted with a hint of jealousy.
