The Break in the Heart
A/N: Hey all! Thought I'd give you guys a story after I've been silent for so long. It's nothing special, but it's new.
Summary: Post "The Parts in the Sum of the Whole" and the "Boy with the Answer". BB
Disclaimer: I humbly acknowledge that I don't own Bones.
Something was wrong. Something was very wrong. Seeley Booth didn't know what exactly was wrong, but something was most definitely not right with his partner.
He knew that getting the evidence to convict Heather Taffet had taken its toll on everyone, especially her, but it was more than that. She was troubled by something else, something far deeper than the Gravedigger.
Granted the sudden appearance of Max probably didn't help. What the hell was he doing there anyways? Booth thought. It's not like Bones doesn't know how to take care of herself. But there was something going on the Brennan wasn't prepared to share with him and hell if Booth was just going to accept that.
And why did he get the feeling that if she left, she would be gone for longer than a couple weeks? Or even forever?
He'd started thinking that something was "off" after he'd kissed her but…she seemed fine when they worked the witch case.
He paused to take another sip of his beer, and promptly realized that he'd finished it. As he crossed the floor to the fridge, he tripped over one of Parker's toys and remembered Brennan's desire to have a child with him before his surgery. It was odd how she hadn't mentioned anything afterwards.
Still, strange though this was, there was nothing he could do until he knew exactly what he was working with. All Booth could do was wait until she told him and hope that it wasn't too late. After all, the break in her heart was too deep to ever completely heal over.
A/N: Told you it wasn't much :)
