Equivocation
There are a great many truths in this world. And far greater lies that disguise themselves as something more benign. But of all these words spoken into being, there are a few that came to represent the entire race of Gems. This maxim would come to influence generations to come throughout the millennia.
To put it quite simply: Gems cannot love.
.
In order to keep their race from dying out, Gems had to force surrounding life to submit to their regime.
This action was logical.
Those who cared about the universe would want it to progress into something greater than the sum of its parts. To ensure this, natural selection chose those with more favorable traits to replace those with undesirable traits.
Gems as some of the most evolved forms of life were the ideal, the superior life form. And thus those who could not justify their continued existence should do the logical thing and submit to that which was obviously superior. If they were unable to do so, a product of underdeveloped thought processes, then it mattered not.
Those of superior races were imbued with the power to eliminate those who only dragged them all down. This was a birthright given by nature to be expended whenever necessary.
And so it was done.
To influence others to submit one often had to use feats pf great physical strength or force. Lower life forms could not understand their logical reasoning. Thus they responded with violent acts of resistance. This was a symptom of their failed genetics. Like a virus. A pestilence to a host organism. Hosts do not sympathize with that which made them ill. If so the host would be overrun and soon destroyed.
Therefore, gems responded in kind.
There is no reasoning with a parasite.
Only violence could cleanse the sickened state of the universe.
And so gems became good at violence in a way only heightened life forms could.
.
Other creatures, what else could they be called, with their underdeveloped brains, poor wretches, could not and would not understand the sacrifice and austerity of the gems mission.
They believed only hate could breed such intense violence.
Such measured disregard for life.
Such apathy in the face of untold brutality.
To speak further with parasites was as unpleasant as it was useless. So gems discontinued trying to eradicate these baseless accusations.
And so it became known that gems were violent beings. No mercy. No emotions.
And through equivocation, one must then understand.
Gems are violent.
Violence begets hate.
Hate cannot create love.
Therefore gems could not love.
A foreign concept at best, it translated to weakness in their ranks.
As the millennia passed these maxims, the original mission, slowly evolved to fit the passing of time. Gems became more sophisticated. They became almost clinical and far more efficient at carrying out their purpose. The ideals still stood but there was no need to fervently express these things.
Love fell by the wayside, Hate soon after, and all that remained was unwavering allegiance to the cause.
There was no time to expend on useless things.
After all that was highly illogical. And gems were nothing if not logical.
