Declaration
It all started when Arthur stayed in his bedroom, busy reading a book he couldn't remember, when Alfred called him that one night. Since the two lived far away—him in England and his boyfriend, Alfred, in America—their schedules were mixed often.
"Arthur, Arthur!" He said eagerly over the phone, "let's Skype now!"
At first he was confused but once he grabbed his laptop by his side, he opened up Skype and quickly signed on. There he saw Alfred smiling on his screen, looking cheerful than ever. However, he was always cheerful to Arthur—that was his best charm other than his own smile and laughter and…just everything about him was great.
"All right, I'm here," Arthur said tiredly, "I hope you aren't going to…Alfred, what are you planning this time?" That grin of his—it meant something to Arthur, and gave him a reasonable suspicion. But what was it?
"Wait there for a second…" Alfred was previously sitting on his chair of the desk of his college bedroom, but then got up and walked off somewhere.
After a moment or two, Alfred came back to the screen, holding something with both hands and his usual grin on his face.
"There's something I have to say..." Alfred said shyly, glancing a little. Shy, Alfred, right there! Arthur had never seen him so shy like this!
And right there…came his declaration.
"I'm not afraid. Today is one of the best—no—greatest days of my whole life. Even more than the day I became a nation. Arthur Kirkland, we are now living in a generation where people in my own homeland can accept their sexuality in all fifty states of America. Yeah, there're gonna be people bitchin' and complaining about us homos, but I can stand on my feet knowing you are beside me, with this ring on your finger…knowing we married for love. Love can win; we just have to push the boundaries until we cross that long path… So, Arthur Kirkland…will you marry me…?"
Arthur stared. He blinked and he gasped a short breath. A smile prickled on both cheeks, growing wide and smiling oh so shockingly over that declaration. But…the way he honesty spoke and chosen his words, the dark red box with the silver ring inside, and the fact Alfred was so happy about his country accepting for what it can be and who he, of all people, is.
Arthur started to slowly nod until his head nodded rapidly, tears trickling down his face.
"Arthur, are you…!"
Out of nowhere, he picked up his laptop, got off his bed, and began spinning in circles with the computer up—Alfred confused over his side while seeing his boyfriend possibly losing his marbles.
"Yes, yes, yes!"
"What, you said yes?"
"YES, I DID!" Arthur bellowed over the laptop, too joyous for anything else.
"I TOLD YOU HE WOULD SAY YES!"
"Oh my god, ELIZA!"
"Stop. Ruining. The moment, you idiots! What did I say; you can join in but hide so he doesn't get pissed off!" Alfred shouted over Skype.
"WHO CARES, I WON TWENTY BUCKS, SO PAY UP GIL!"
"Damn it, Eliza, we did not bet-"
"Excuse me, Gilbert-kun, but you actually did-"
"Shush, Kiku!"
"Guys, are you, like, having a Skype party without meee~?" Feliks' voice sounded off from the laptop.
And before anyone knew…the whole laptop of Arthur and Alfred's was flooded by friends all congratulating or calling off bets from others.
However, in the end, Arthur and Alfred couldn't help but laugh all night long.
