Lindsay was on her couch gazing out at the lit up New York skyline. Her apartment gave a great view of the signs of Times Square and all the festivities. Even though she had her windows closed, she could hear all the shouts and music on the streets below.

She snuggled closer to the pillow that she was holding against her. The pillow provided a sense of comfort to her. She wished she was on a case right now and out with the team. Mac sent her home after Stella had to tell him what had happened to her earlier that week in the lab. He told her to take a week off and to not worry about work. She was such a team player, that didn't set well with her. Even though she protested it, she took the required offer and stayed home.

As she gazed again out of her window, her thoughts drifted to Danny. She never meant to break his heart. Every time she tries to open her heart to him, the past memories of Bozeman always intrudes. Her past is interfering with her moving on with her life and many times she had tried to tell Danny but she couldn't. She was afraid that he would not want to be around her anymore.

She didn't want to fail him.

Danny had gotten off work early and had something planned up his sleeve. He had requested to get off early so he could take care of some things before midnight. He had to talk to Lindsay.

He had been upset that Lindsay was upset. He was not angry with her, but he was angry that she had been through such turmoil in Montana. He had to pretty much bribe Mac into telling him what was up with Lindsay even though it was against the lab's policy to reveal confidential information. But Mac knew how Danny felt about her so he gave out the information.

When Danny heard it, it broke his heart. How could anybody do that to her? What she went through nearly brought Danny to tears. She was one of the strongest people that he knew and he loved her for that. He also knew that was the reason why she pushed him away. It was not because she didn't love him, she was not healed enough to open up her heart to him and he was okay with that.

Time heals all wounds, they say.

It was 11:30 and she had flicked on the TV. She smiled when she saw all the happy couples out in the streets and she smiled a bittersweet smile. That could be me and Danny down there, she thought. She had become stiff sitting around so she went into her kitchen to grab a snack of m&m's. She sat down and was enjoying the festivities when she glanced at the clock. It was 11:50 and that was when she heard a knock at the door.

She looked through the peephole. She saw Danny through the peephole. She unlatched the door chain and unlocked the door. Opening the door, she came face to face with Danny.

"How ya doing, Montana?"

"I've been better."

She let him in the apartment and she noticed that he had a bag with him.

"Danny what are you doing here?"

"I don't want you to be alone tonight. I know you're not ready to be with me yet, but I wanted you to feel safe tonight."

"Dann-" she said before Danny's finger touched the base of her lips.

"Lindsay, you mean so much to me. I just want you to know that I am there for you and I will always be there for you. Let the past be behind you and open up the future for us. Let this be our own Auld Lang Syne, a new beginning, a new future. Open up to me Linds."

Lindsay looked up into his blue eyes and she didn't have to speak a word, he knew the answer. He reached into the bad and got out 2 champagne glasses and a bottle of champagne. He popped the cork and poured 2 glasses.

He took her into his embrace and the seconds dwindled down to the last 5.

5...4...3...2...1... HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!!!!

He caressed her face and gently placed a kiss on her lips. With that kiss, she knew that he didn't care about her insecurities or her little quirks. The future is theirs for the taking and enjoying every minute of it and the years to come.
