I've got writer's block on both drafts of my stories (don't worry, I'm still working on them!), and this just popped into my head when my little sister was playing TIE Fighter and getting blown up. Anyway, squadron of gunboats is on patrol with a Star Destroyer deep inside Imperial space, and are ambushed as they leave a system's mass gravity shadow by a Mon Cal cruiser and a few squads of X-wings, and B-wings. This is what happens.

The Ambush

~~~
The lasers fire
Verdant light spills across my sight
Destroying everything.
My ship shudders
Crimson bolts fly past me
Splashing my shields.
A proton torpedo
Aimed at my engines
Brings down my protections.
Scarlet bolts
Quad-linked, shot true
Piercing my cockpit.
My instruments,
Rent by rogue fire,
Explode mightily.
The pilot's chair
Thrust by repulsors
Leaves the wreckage.
My squadmates,
In disarray from the ambush,
Retreat to the deuce.
In the void.
No rescue is coming.
The void beckons...
The cold envelops,
Blackness creeps across my vision.
Stars dim and go out.
The void beckons...
What is it with me? Every time I get writer's block, I write depressing stuff. Oh well... And in case you're wondering, the reason I picked gunboats for the victims of the ambush is because I don't like them. They're slow and have such weak shields they might as well not have any. Therefore they're easy kills for rebel fighters.
