Title: Four Little Words
Summary: I finally had the chance, or so I thought. But then 'we' happened, and my heart was broken by those four little words. Onesided Zack/Angeal, Onesided Angeal/Genesis. After Gen leaves, Pre-Zack promotion CC.

This was supposed to best night of Zack Fair's life. This was supposed to be a night of love, of care, a night of even more excitement and fulfillment than when he was accepted into SOLDIER. He was supposed to be so elated that he could burst, even more than when he was promoted to a second-class rank.
Zack was, all of those things, until the heat of night. That one moment, who could have known the impact? That one moment, in the heat of Zack's night, caused every hope that he had of being in a true relationship with his one love was absolutely shattered, like a broken mirror, by the utterance of those four little words.

Hot and sweaty, Angeal rocked his own body back and forth into Zack, breathing deeply, trying to release the remembered pain of losing the man he desperately wished had been his last lover. It only took a few slipped words, leaked near the time of release, for Angeal to drive Zack completely over the edge - but not in a positive form.
"Genesis, I love you…" his words barely even a whisper in the crook of Zack's neck, but heard by the latter nonetheless.
And they broke Zack's heart.
He had finally been given the chance to be with the one he loved, his mentor, his friend, his everything, but Zack realized the only reason why he had the opportunity. He was a replacement for the unrequited love Angeal Hewley had for Genesis Rhapsodos. Angeal held no romantic feelings for him whatsoever - he only saw Zack as a possible outlet for stress and a source of pleasure. The comprehension of the next fact was what devastated him the most.
Zack was only a shadow of the broken heart Genesis had left behind.
