Stretched out on the couch with his arms folded behind his hands, Sans squirted the last bit of ketchup into his mouth, listening to Papyrus' humming as he cooked spaghetti for breakfast.
Sans frowned, tossing the bottle aside, Wasn't the kiddo supposed to be up by now? He sighed, reluctantly swinging his legs over the edge of the couch, and pulling himself upright.
"Pap, I'm gonna check on the kiddo."
"Okay, brother! Breakfast will be ready soon!"
The stairs of the skelebros' new home were squeakier than the staircase in the home they had in Snowdin. There were times when Sans missed the friendliness of Snowdin, but he enjoyed the surface, even though some of the humans wished the monsters had remained Underground. He carefully crept up the stairs and made his way to Frisk's room. Gently, he pushed open the door and peeked inside.
Frisk was still in bed, dark hair spilled over the pillow, eyes closed. Sans smiled, padding over to her bed. He sat beside the child, running his boney fingers through the mess of dark hair.
"Kiddo?" He gently rubbed Frisk's forehead. She stirred, whimpering a little.
"I know," Sans said, "but you gotta go to school."
Frisk whined again, but sat up this time. Sans stood again, then pulled Frisk to her feet. He held her shoulders for a moment to make sure her eyes adjusted to the dark.
"You good to get dressed, buddy?"
She nodded, rubbing her eyes and yawning.
"Alright. Pap's makin' breakfast. So, you'd better hurry up, or it'll be-" he grinned, "pasta breakfast time." He turned and closed the door, then teleported back on the couch, where he shut his eyes.
A few moments later, Sans felt something tug at the base of his jacket. He cracked open an eye to see Frisk staring at him.
"What is it?"
She stuck out her lip in a professional pout. "If I have to get up, then so do you!"
Sans groaned. He really just wanted to lay down and sleep all day. "Fine." Then, he added slyly, "Go back to bed. I'll let you skip school today. But today only."
"THE GREAT PAPYRUS OBJECTS!" Papyrus yelled. "Unless we all share spaghetti and snuggles!"
Frisk laughed a soul-warming laugh that made Sans pick up Frisk and hug her. She hugged him back.
"I can't even begin to tell you how much I love you, kiddo." He said.
"I love you too, Sans." Frisk replied as Sans made room for Papyrus. He set Frisk on his lap, and spread out a large blanket over the three of them.
Soon, Frisk and Papyrus were out. Sans chuckled, feeling happy that his family was safe.
And if anyone messed with them...
...welp, they'd have a diddly darn bad time while burning in hell.
