Addison took off her Christian Louboutin pumps at the entrance of her LA home, that sat on the side of the beach. As she clung onto the large box located next to her, she watched the twilight scene outside.
Breathtaking, she thought as she observed the vivid orange hues that faded into a deep purple over the ocean. The joining colours created one of the best images the human eye could behold.
She took off her cropped jacket and threw it on the box. She wouldn't need that now, the box would come in use much later – not for another two weeks, at least.
She danced her steps towards her living room, passing by her cozy leather couches and flat screen TV. She didn't want to stay inside, it was way too nice outside and the weather was always warm enough.
As she opened the large window, she stepped outside and sat down on one of her beach chairs, ready to admire the beautiful scenery before it got too dark to see. Usually, she would have a glass of red wine and take the first glass in deep gulps, trying to relax from an obviously stressful day at work.
Things were different now.
Somewhere in the distance, she could see a happy child, laughing with his parents on the beach. Addison wondered when she could have that, too. When would she be able to make a little one laugh, one of her own flesh and blood?
Soon, she thought, her hopes rising as she shook the rest of the negative thoughts away. She couldn't think of her problems now, there were greater – yet better – things to think about right now.
Turning to her side, she realized she wasn't alone; Milo was staring right into her pale blue eyes, meowing in a faint whisper.
"Hey, Milo. Missed me?" She picked Milo up and placed him on her thighs, stroking his thick fur gently. He purred in response, relaxing his little muscles under her feather-light touch.
"Addison," she turned around to her left, to the calling of her name. Sam was standing on his side of the balcony, talking over the little fence that separated them as neighbors.
"Sam? Aren't you supposed to be taking care of Maya tonight?"
Sam chuckled lightly, glancing down at her body. "Maya isn't a child anymore; she doesn't need to be babysat. Besides, she's out on a date."
"A date." She smiled faintly, remembering back on her dating days when she was in high school. "Kids grow up, Sam. We have to remember that."
He laughed again, this time with a more hearty tone, the smile reaching up to his ears.
"What about you? No wine tonight?"
Addison sighed deeply, closing her eyes for a second. "No," she told him casually, as if it wasn't an issue for her anyway. "Not for a while, now."
Sam looked down at his feet, and then excused himself. He bid her goodbye, and even said goodbye to the cat, too. Addison laughed at that, even though she remembered Sam's first reaction to the news that she decided to keep the cat, after some 'extensive bonding'.
It was more and more dating for Sam. He always had a girl to go out with whenever he wished. As Doctor Feel-Good, Addison thought he would always remain single after his nasty divorce a while back ago – it would help his public image, somehow.
Addison knew nothing about publicity, only the one she'd had in medical journals and doctors' magazines. That was about the only media exposure she'd experienced. She was still famous in her field, though. As Addison Forbes-Montgomery, she was a well-respected, world-class neo-natal surgeon.
Addison looked down at her stomach, admiring herself. Her swollen tummy, forming a perfect, round bump.
Her son would be here any second.
Thank you so much to the amazing Satan-wears-prada for working her magic on this one. More to come in this fandom, soon!
