Chapter 1
10-10
"You have no new messages." Vincent clacked his cell phone shut as he walked down a dark, damp alley in Kalm.
It was just past dusk when he started to head home, the humid air making it a little difficult to breathe.
His cloak drifting behind him, he comes around the corner of his apartment building and rain starts to mist from the low wispy clouds
above. This night was the eve of October 10, three days before Vincent was born of the world.
It was not a very exciting day for him, but he didn't look forward to a good day the next morning either.
Walking up the stairs to his apartment, he paused for a moment as he looked for his key.
He opened the door, kicked off his boots, and tossed his cloak on the end of his bed.
His apartment wasn't much, it didn't need to be. A simple 13" television in the corner, a bed by the window.
A small kitchen across from that, and a small bathroom next to the front door. He didn't need anything more than that.
He laid down on his bed and let the sound of the rain's pitter pattering on his window lull him into a trance.
For a moment, he thought his brain might have stopped. Everything that went on that day had left his mind.
He was glad. He didn't want to think about anything. Not the day that it was, not the upcoming events, not the past. Nothing.
Not noticing, he started to doze off, away from reality. He didn't care, he was tired. His body ached.
The pain kept him from complete sleep, he couldn't find a comfortable position. Lying on his back, he fiddled with his gun, Cerberus
charm dangling. He picked his cell phone up off his end table and flipped it open. The back light blinded his eyes, making him squint to
see the time. '00.30, I better get to sleep.' He shut his phone, and laid it down on his night stand, next to it he laid Cerberus.
He rolled over and stared aimlessly out his window, eye lids heavily blinking. Finally he found slumber.
