AN: This is an original poem I wrote and entered into some journals. Then I thought this would work amazing for In Plain Sight since Mary's attitude about life is pretty much is a carbon-copy of my own.
Disclaimer: I do own this poem, but I do not own In Plain Sight. If I did Mary and Marshall would have been together a while ago, or Marshall would have been MINE!
Premise: Mary's romantic feelings for Marshall
You stood beside me,
Calmly gazing, even as the storm enveloped us.
As a friend then, I was amused and took you under my protection.
You broke through when I wasn't watching,
You made me care.
You are the only thing that has stirred my deadened soul.
Callused Hands that I grudgingly trusted, now soft velvet freely held.
You gave me what I craved my entire life—
Colors, light, feelings—things that I have had to gaze at from afar.
Even if the depth of my feelings may frighten you like a skittish colt,
I have had this brief moment of sun—of love and freedom.
This I will remember always.
So I will go on—no longer dispirited and weary,
Thinking I am enslaved to this lifetime.
But simply as a soul awaiting for my duty to be finished,
Patiently anticipating for my chance of permanent sunshine.
So thank you, mo chroí—
For giving me heart even as you stole it.
