Hey guys. This is just a short drabble I found when I was sorting through old fanfics I've been writing. The sequel to Wedding Bells is still is progress, I'm just trying to sort out the plotline, such as it is, in my head. Thanks very much to everyone who reviewed, you all wanted Janet, so you all get Janet. I like her better, anyway. I hope you enjoy this. Istalindar.

It was strange, Sam thought, staring out across the lake. Beside her Jack was out cold, fishing rod limp in his hands, snoring. This was strange.

What was stranger was that this was the first time she had remembered how strange it was. Fifteen years of sharing a cabin by an alien lake surrounded by alien hills.

They were lucky.

Earth was gone. At least, Earth as they knew it. The Ori had come and despite everything, they had enslaved the population. A sparse few had escaped, many more had died. And the rest were worshippers.

Jack and her and Teal'c had come out here. Teal'c had helped them build the cabin then had returned to Chulak. Sam had stayed with Jack.

They hadn't ever discussed it. She hadn't asked to come or stay and he hadn't invited her. But it just seemed so inconceivable that she wouldn't, that she'd leave him or he'd leave her and that they'd each be alone in their little corner of the galaxy, that words weren't needed.

And dreams of being alone, without him, made her wake shaking and sweating in their bed. And, just like in the field, any unusual movement from her woke him, and he'd pull her into his arms and shush her, kissing her neck and stroking her scarred shoulder.

It was strange, a little bit. But not surprising, when she thought about it. From the beginning they'd been brilliant together, brilliant as soldiers, brilliant as people. When there was such brilliance going on, why break it up? Sam glanced at Jack, and after a few moments of her scrutiny, he woke up.

"Hey there." he said, raising his head and stretching. "You okay?"

"Just fine." She said. He grinned.

"So you are." She laughed, and Jack grabbed her hand and kissed it.

Strange, sure. Brilliant…exceedingly.

Daniel would have been proud.
