Don't Leave Me
Death was never a long thing. It was a matter of simply living and dieing.
"You can't. I won't let you do it Alphonse," Mei Chang's soft voice whimpered, tears hitting the ground like bullets ricocheting off of cement. Every tear was a bullet into his heart, but he loved his brother, and he had to pay him back for the kindness of bringing him back to life. It was his duty, and it was right."You just can't..."
"Mei, please," Alphonse cried, his soul racked with anguish. "My brother deserves the chance to have his arm back. He deserves a chance to be able to live, Mei! Please, do it for me!"
Mei nodded no, shaking her head. "No, no, no! Don't you get it... Al," she whispered, her voice soft as a flower's petals, "I love you. I can't just give you up."
Alphonse cried out, his soul tormented. On one hand, he wanted to stay with Mei Chang, but the urge to protect was greater. "Mei Chang, if you love me, please... Honor my wish." Mei Chang nodded, and drew a piece of charcoal from her pocket.
She sketched silently, drawing intricate loops and swirls and symbols. She had to redo a few parts, for tears had stained the red-black coal, making it run like blood. She stood up after a few minutes. "It is done," she whispered. She silently dragged Alphonse into the circle and nodded, clapping her hands together and place them on the circle. "Farewell, Alphonse."
Slowly, Alphonse began to disappear, the shattered pieced of his armor dissolving and fading like crystal shards that were being crunched into dust. The last piece, thank the Gate, that remained was his soul bond. Mei Chang resisted the urge to drag it out and save her love. "Mei," the soul said softly, forcing her to lean closer. "Mei, I love you. I hope that you find happiness in life."
Mei rubbed her eyes. "You are always too kind, Alphonse-sama!" Alphonse's voice rippled through the room, a soft chuckle as he begin to fade even more.
"I have to go now, Mei, alright? Thank you for doing this for me," Alphonse's voice echoed into the room. Mei Chang, at the moment, would have sworn she felt Alphonse's soul wrap around her before he faded. Mei waited for a moment, listening to the still air before she fell onto the circle and weeped on the remains of Alphonse's shell. She felt hands grab at her and drag her away as she left out a sob that rose to the ceiling, and seemed to echo through all the Earth.
