Chapter Zero

January 5, 1994

Unknown House

XXX, JPN

"GYAAAAH!"

Gemma Saotome, a martial artist at his mid-30s. Wearing glasses with a frame that wraps around his ears, a white bandana that covers his head, and a white gi. The man is the master of the Saotome School of Anything Goes Martial Arts, and the father of his 8-year-old son, Ranma Saotome. Genma, right now is sitting in a *seiza position close to the trap door. Under the trapdoor is a pit filled with starving cats and he threw his own son whom just been wrapped with sardines. As of now, this would be third time of having Ranma being mauled by starving cats and his father's not doing anything to stop it. Genma was doing this to train Ranma for the *Neko-Ken a.k.a. Cat-Fu.

Everything went silent, specially Ranma's cries of pain and fear. 'That boy…did he finally accomplish it,' Genma asked himself before opening the trapdoor.

CREEAK…

After opening the door, he cautiously lowered his head to observe the situation. Genma turned his head to one direction and all the cats were crowded at one side of the pit with fear.

"Mmmrrooowwrrr…"

It was the sound of a cat's voice being made by a child, ha human child. Genma turned his head to the other direction. "RROWWRR!" Suddenly a blur jumped and attacked him just like a cat! WITH NO MERCY AND WARNING! Genma was flung away from the pit and crashed right through the ceiling!

CRAASHH!

The boy climbed out of the pit and onto the wooden floor. However, he wasn't acting like his normal self, for his subconsciousness has made him a cat person. His gi was torn, and the poor boy's skin was covered with multiple cuts and scratches, some of them are still bleeding. Cat-Ranma was observing his surroundings.

CRACK!

The cat-boy turned his attention towards a giant piece of the ceiling that fell down and crash landed on the floor.

R…RR…RKKKK…

The wooden floor over there was starting to break due to the object's heavy weight. It seemed to be like the floor was starting to sink there. Finally, it couldn't handle it anymore!

BRAKOOM!

Cat-Ranma immediately leaped away from it just as it occurred! He was lucky enough that he didn't fall straight into the hole. Then suddenly all of the starving cats finally escaped from the pit, onto the surface of the floor and ran like hell escaping the building the moment they saw Ranma! After every single cat has left the house, something was shining underneath the sub-floor which caught his eye.

Out of curiosity, the cat-boy walked and then jumped into the hole, descending into beneath the building once more. Coming closer towards it, he finally discovers what's shining there… it was a pendant! The pendant had a spider charm with an antiqued silver finish, black acrylic rhinestone cabochon. Its setting was also antiqued with a silver finish. The pendant was at least 2 in., connected to a 16 in. silver chain. It's almost like as if it was brand new!

Once his right hand touched the pendant…it started reacting! The pendant's rhinestone began flashing and rapidly changing colors from black to white. Just as he was about to try and escape, light surrounded the pendant and then suddenly engulfed the entire room in a bright light!

Suddenly the light died down, and both Ranma and the spider pendant were gone! Disappeared without a trace…

GLOSSARY

Seiza:

Seiza (正座 or 正坐, literally "proper sitting") is the Japanese term for one of the traditional formal ways of sitting in Japan.

To sit seiza-style, one must first be kneeling on the floor, folding one's legs underneath one's thighs, while resting the buttocks on the heels. The ankles are turned outward as the tops of the feet are lowered so that, in a slight "V" shape, the tops of the feet are flat on the floor and big toes overlapped, the right always on top of the left, and the buttocks are finally lowered all the way down. Depending on the circumstances, the hands are folded modestly in the lap, or are placed palm down on the upper thighs with the fingers close together, or are placed on the floor next to the hips, with the knuckles rounded and touching the floor. The back is kept straight, though not unnaturally stiff. Traditionally, women sit with the knees together while men separate them slightly. Some martial arts, notably kendō, aikidō, and iaidō, may prescribe up to two fist widths of distance between the knees for men.

Stepping into and out of seiza is mindfully performed. There are codified traditional methods of entering and exiting the sitting position depending on occasion and type of clothing worn.

Neko-Ken:

The Nekoken (猫拳 Cat Fist?), also known as Cat-Fu, is a condition that Ranma Saotome is subject to when his fear of cats reaches an unbearable level, rather than an actual technique. If he were cured of his fear, this state would likely disappear. It is not a practically usable technique, and beyond two times very early in the manga, it has only been activated against Maomolin, although his general fear of cats is shown more frequently. Given Ranma's own increase in versatility and more efficient use of his inherent power, along with the Nekoken's flaw of inhibiting its user's intelligence, it is quite doubtful if this state would give him an advantage towards the end of the series.

While Ranma is the only practitioner of the Cat Fist, Genma learned about it from a training manual and Cologne recognized it when she fought Ranma.

Author's Note: Sorry it's been taking me so long for this but my laptop was broken and all of my data and fanfics were gone as well. After seeing all the errors of Chapter Zero I've decided to edit/rewrite, also did some changes to the story but remember that the story. Remember that the story takes place during the "Great Depression" (U.S.A. in the 1930's). Yeah Ranma's life's going to be a living hell. The pendant, it looks exactly like the new spider pendant necklace bl by Harribell-Originals from Deviant Art. The credit goes to her because it looks amazing!
