Title: The Fourth Of July
Rating: G
Author's notes: This is basically just something I typed up while waiting for the fireworks to start. It's very short, and is just one paragraph from each of the main characters' point of view (except Alex, I missed her for some reason) describing how they might feel about the Fourth of July, as well as what they might be doing for it.
Today is the day every good little American celebrates their freedom. Everyone but me, that is. I still have a gland stuck in my head, and I'm still chained to the Agency. I'll probably be stuck here for the rest of my life, too. So for me this holiday has absolutely no meaning. I'll probably just stay home and read a book or watch the tube. It's not like I have anything better to do.

I'm excited. Who wouldn't be? It's the Fourth of July, and I'm all set. I've bought a vanload full of fireworks, and I'm gonna shoot 'em all off tonight- out in the country of course, I'm not in the mood to get arrested like last year. I'm probably gonna have a moment of silence too, for all the people that died to give out country it's freedom. They were patriots, just like me. Of course, I haven't died for my country yet, but if I needed to, I'd jump at the chance.

I'm not an American by birth; in fact, it's entirely possible that some of my ancestors might have fought against the Americans in the Revolutionary War. However, I have lived here long enough to consider myself an American, by loyalty if not by birth. I'm too busy to do anything big for the Fourth, though. I have animals to feed, experiments to perform... Still, I might have time for a private celebration later this evening.

Today's a tiring day for me. All the family is going to come and spend the day at my house. I'm going to have to put up with annoying relatives and hyperactive grandkids all day. Then, in the evening, we're all going to drive down to the nearest fireworks display and perform the family tradition for the Fourth- fighting traffic all evening. Of course, it's all propaganda, just like everything else in my life. Everything's become propaganda since Annie died. I miss her. It's just so ironic that she passed away on the Fourth of July...

I'm going to have fun today. I know everyone thinks I'm quiet and mild-mannered, but they've obviously never seen me on the Fourth of July. Every year I get together with my old college buddies and some friends from the IRS, and we really whoop it up. The parties always last long after midnight, and almost everyone ends up dead drunk. Usually I'm a designated driver, but this year I think I'll have a few drinks. I'm not the Charlie Brown that everyone seems to think I am.
